Don't give in if you don't want to. Around here, "eminent domain" took a beautiful stone farmhouse and farm to put up a public golf course. Remember Edith Macefield!

They call and make an offer. You say no. End of story. Why call them names? If you have a rezoning issue either your municipality, take it up with the local authorities. A developer contacting you with a reasonable offer is simply someone doing his/her job.

So, they are building doll houses??? Must be if they want to put 8 houses on a half acre lot.

<<they just want the 1/2-acre lots so they can build 8 houses on each lot.>>
What are the zoning and density rules for your area? If the zoning is for one home per half-acre, that is quite different than having the zoning coded for townhomes or mid-to-highrise apartments or condos.
I recently moved from a neighborhood where zoning rules called for two homes per acre, which meant a maximum of one home per half-acre.. No higher-density apartments or townhouses allowed.
A major zoning and density change (not to mention a county master plan revision for the community) would have to be enacted by the local government to put 8 homes on one building lot. That would never happen in that particular neighborhood.
My guess is that it wouldn't happen where you are either, if the neighborhood already has one home per half-acre. Either your county wants commercial and high-density apartment/condo living units in your area, or wants to maintain the "suburban" layout of residences already there.

My goodness, just read your original post again.............be glad you are being offered money by "developers" (who probably are just custom-home builders needing lots to build on).
I sold both my own home and my Dad's home for great money. The land those houses were sitting on was worth more than I could ever have gotten by trying to sell the houses for their own intrinsic value.
You must live in a "hot" real estate area. Do some research or talk to some real estate professionals who can maybe give you a better perspective on the value of your lot--BEFORE you call the folks "jerks" who are offering you money.
There is a shortage of good buildable land in many areas across the U.S. right now. If you own some of it, you are sitting pretty right now, so enjoy the status.

"Developers"approached my friend's mother and everyone on her block and offered them 10 cents on the dollar for their houses....everyone said no....most were elderly and had no family to help them navigate the legalities of such a transaction....the company managed to up the offers but only by a few thousand....the houses are now gone...and instead there is a Home Depot.....I often wonder where all those elderly homeowners went...I don't consider this "progress" at all!

Apparently , people can't wait to move to the west coast of Florida. They are building on every postage stamp lot. Everyone laughs that one day you drive past a field and cows are grazing , next week you drive by - cows are gone and bulldozers are in there putting down sewers.
A farmette owner on the next street over from us sold his 10 acres to a developer. They went to the county to change the zoning so they could put in 80 homes on that 10 acres. It did not pass so now we wonder what will eventually be put in there.

Some people just don't take NO for an answer....they try to wear you down...

I'm wondering if the OP has a decimal point problem? How can you build a house on .05 (1/20) acre?
