Never shopped for myself at a consignment store but did have some craft items for sale at a local consignment craft store when my son was little.

There is one around here where you have to actually make an appt. because they only buy/sell ""designer"" items. Well la-di-da. Bet they wouldn't let me in with my Vera Bradley purse. lol

Depends on Consignment store. Twice I've been burned. Yesterday I picked up what I could find and took over to the store that helps the human society. Could not find half my stuff and couple of items had someone else's number on it and they said it wasn't mind. Imagine their surprise when One of the items, a Joan Rivers glass case, have many, had my account number inside on a sticker I put on.

I told them, this is what happen to some of my items, someone's sticker outside, but mine either missing and item sold. Someone else complained about this lady being a crook, or that is stronger, not honest. She goes to church every Sunday. That matter too me. This is a small town. How can you worship on Sunday and break God's law during the week.? You either do good, and not halfway. I guess confessions lets her slip by her dishonest deeds.

I have used Clothes Mentor...they buy your items outright on the pot for cash.

I got more than I paid for on two Dennis Basso full length faux furs...but they wouldn't even take my TSV Dooneys - they knew they were TSVs and said they didn't sell well - there were too many available!

I think it's smart to time your visits to the correct season - I brought my Bassos around holiday time.

You need to do some homework before you decide if to consign your clothes and more importantly where to consign them. For example out where I live it is mostly a manufacturing environment. I checked some shops around here and what they were selling was lots of jeans and other not so quality clothing lines. I knew they did not have the customer base that would want my Talbot's clothes and D&B and Kate Spade bags so I searched out some other stores closer to areas that have more white collar jobs and found a store that carried more of the brands I wanted to consign. They work with me and allow me to bring in more than the allowable number of items at one time since I live 45 minutes away. I drop off my things with their itemized list already filled out. They price things and mail me a copy of the list with the prices they assigned. They mail me a check and a accounting of what items the check covers every month.
