Congratulations on the impressive weight loss for you and your husband, Cardinal Girl. We like to poke around the antique stores around here and I hunt for a few specific items in a few thrift stores. I think it's harder to find "good" stuff at a bargain price anymore though.

weight loss is really quite an accomplishment---I actually never thought of selling my things---but this is way too nice for ARC and unsuitable for the shelter---if there are "rules" I'll go along and see if this works---if so, I'll try some other things------you all are great at this kind of advice-----I knew I could count on you all--

No. I just donate to Good Will and take a tax write off.

I only know of one consignment shop in my area and it's a rip off IMO. Some time ago I checked with them about what clothing they would take and was told it had to be practically new and worn no more than five times total. Well, I had some gently used clothes but couldn't guarantee it was worn 5 times or less. So, now I donate to a thrift shop in the town I live in. I haven't been to the consignment shop since and don't intend to go.

I've sent more expensive items to reputable online consignment shops. Some things took 6+ months to sell but I was pretty happy with the process.

did you have to swear or take an oath or sign a pledge that you only wore the things 5 times or less? I haven't worn this , oh maybe 7 times but it looks like new---

i have done pop up consignments where you label your own clothes, price them, and then deliver them to the pop up shop.....they are usually 4 days and you have the option on having your items priced half price on the last day......for this type i have consigned clothing, shoes, household items, books, and costume jewelry.

i have also done regular consignments in stores..... clothing and household items.

Pop up consignment shops sound great. I guess that's what "Just Between Friends" is in this area, only baby/kids clothes and toys. Would love to have pop up consignment shops for women's clothing and accessories. Hmmmmm. . . . . . .

There are some shops now that buy your clothes. It makes it easy for them and you.

If you do want to use a consignment store, check with friends in your area if they shop at one and if the people are honest.

I did sell things at a consignment shop years ago where you priced your items yourself. I believe the items could remain in the shop for three months and during that time you could stop by and reduce them if they hadn't sold. At the end of the three months you were expected to come by and pick up your unsold items. It worked well but then the owner moved away and the shop closed.

I tried another one that charged a membership fee plus 60%. They did the pricing which I thought was too high so they sold fewer items. It just wasn't worth the bother so I just donate to Goodwill or the one that benefits veterans.

I used one a couple of years ago to sell a couple of Dooney & Bourke's that were made in China. The owner priced them was very honest and paid me almost immediately. I could also track them on her website.
