Correlation is not, and never has been, cause and effect.
It's no surprise that people who are mentally ill attempt to self-medicate.

As I said, there's tons of research online, no one here is an expert, and honestly the issue is of little interest to me. My point in bringing it up at all was to point out how people get jumped on for having a difference of opinion.

I wouldn't say experts, but there most certainly are people here in the field who know what they are talking about and can discuss without getting violet.

Oh good we agree then, no experts here. And really, just about everything that's been discussed here is easily researched online. Anyone who really wants to is capable of forming their own educated opinion.
So yes, if we are going to have a discussion, it would be nice if we do it civilly, and without condescension to those who have differing opinions regardless of which side of the issue they happen to fall.

Its even worse then most people realize....I know a nurse that works in a hospital that treats addictions....and marijuana isnt the harmless drug that people think it is...it can lead to serious psychological problems...psychosis...paranoia, hallucinations, memory problems and impaired thinking, heart problems, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, loss of drive or ambition...Watch in a few years in all the states where its been legalized the State Health Authorities will be talking about a national crisis.......look how long it took for them to come out with the bad effects of tobacco on society...or opioids which started in the 90's.....stay tuned.....

MJ has been going strong for the past 50 years, and it has been studied all along. We don't have a nation of people from that era mortally wounded from its use.

I've seen many patients over the years with psychosis and other forms of mental illness, none of which was traced back to MJ use, @Spurt

Nor do the Western European countries who have legalized or do not penalize use. Most of the US can only dream about a crime rate like the Netherlands (or several other European countries), compared to the US. The rest of the world has been doing studies on marijuana use all along. There are few recent studies in the US because no facility that gets Federal funds wants to risk losing funds out of spite. It has to be largely privately funded - a distinct handicap.
