Re: Woman Fired over $200 Tip

All who think she should keep the money...would you feel the same if you were the customer who made the mistake on the receipt? I don't see a total under the tip line. Shoulda been a clue. I see a comma in the tip amount. If the customer had added another 0 would she have taken it to be a $2000 tip? Greedy. She and that other waitress who claimed she got no tip and a nasty comment are giving the service workers a bad name.

First of all esmerelda these are two different cases. Why did the customer wait so long to change his mind? The restaurant is at fault, they messed up.

A week? That is "so long"? I guess he didn't notice it for a week. It was a credit card charge, wasn't it? Am I wrong about that?

It was week before he notified IHOP about it, they gave him back his money but managment should not expect the waitress to pay it back. It's their fault.

I think that Ihop should eat the loss and then institute a new policy about double checking tips over 20 percent.

How is it management's fault? Management didn't get the tip. Did they even know about it before the customer pointed out the error? Apparently the wait staff don't pool and split tips at IHOP. If they did I'm certain someone would have questioned the amount. I hope all are not like she is.

I think the waitress took advantage of someone who likely has early stage Alzheimer's Disease. Their declining math skills are one of the first symptoms . If a tip looks too good to be true...it likely is. And someone doesn't have to be ""elderly"" to have early symptoms of this disease.

What about the restaurant?

Shouldn't they have questioned the large tip also?

Held it until it was verified?

How did the young lady take advantage of the customer, did she fill in the tip amount?

The customer already verified his handwriting and admitted that it was a mistake.

Re: Woman Fired over $200 Tip

The customer made a mistake. I think the restaurant was trying to make it right by believing him and reimbursing him. The waitress, when she found out the money was erroneously given to her, should have tried to make it right. If she couldn't pay it back right away, a payment plan should have been offered. JMHO

I could see my 86 yr old dad making a mistake with his tip. If this had happened to him, I'd appreciate any effort made by the restaurant and/or waitress to make it right.

In addition, I've noticed my dad thinks he's tipping a lot but it's not enough. He truly doesn't realize he's leaving too little. I always try to pick up the bill when we go out to eat. Once in a while dad insists on paying. When that happens I always find a way to add to the tip as we are leaving. Sometimes I clue the waitress in so she knows in the end, all will be fair.
