DH and I love to go to the movies any time we can. Once we were at an early EVENING show, which was rated R. There was some nudity. A couple came in with their children, probably about 6 and 8. I couldn't believe it! These are the kids who will grow up to be teenagers who get into trouble. What are these parents thinking???
Also, in this theatre, the ushers will check tickets at the door if the movie is a popular first-run one, but they apparently don't do anything about this. The kids were quiet, but they shouldn't have been there.
I'm glad they gave you passes and said they would be more careful in the future!

It has been ages since I went to a movie, but I don't remember ever seeing anything like you describe. Things have gone downhill swiftly. What I don't get is that people spend good money to entertain their kids and then the kids just ignore the show.

I just saw an article about a lady in PA who shhhh'd three teen girls and after the movie they and five others were waiting for her outside and beat her up pretty bad including a broken eye socket. Wow.
Saw it on HuffPo when I logged onto my AOL email account. Not sure when it happened, I'm guessing this past couple of days.

Hubby and I have given up going to the movies; it's usually a horror show. And I'm not talking about the movies. Times have changed, parents today feel that their babies and toddlers should go everywhere with them, even places that are not suitable for the children. It's a huge problem in movies. The crying, the talking, the yelling, the scampering up and down and over the aisles. It's also a problem in many restaurants. You expect it in family friendly or fast food restaurants but you also find it in really nice restaurants at times wheren you would think kids would be in bed. It is...what it is. We don't go to the movies and we're not at all shy about walking out of a restaurant if it sounds we're in a pre-school or pediatrician's office.

My friend and I wanted to see Cinderella (which was great by the way). We went to a 1:30 showing on a Monday. No one was in the theater until a couple of ladies came in with one carrying a toddler. They sat a few rows behind us. Well the toddler started whining and crying (can't blame him). What kid would want to sit in the dark for two hours looking at something they don't understand. Well in order to calm the toddler down she walked him (whining and crying) up and down the isle in front of us. (it wasn't as bad when they were behind us) She should have taken him out of the theater but oh no, she didn't mind disturbing us. There are parts of the movie that I can't remember or missed entirely because of this woman. It seems that people lack any manners today especially in restaurants. My parents didn't take us to these types of places until we were old enough to behave.

I saw that too Qwackertoo! And I was even more glad that I didn't say anything to the 2 couples after reading about this. That's why we just left and walked out, I did not want a confrontation!
In case anyone missed it, I posted an Update, the theatre is sending me movie passes and apologized for the incident in my original post.
Thanks again for the replies. And again honestly our experience from going to the movies a lot is the children are well behaved. But this movie we saw these children were just too young to be at a movie, (any movie IMO), and this was the parents fault.

We attend movie matinees occasionally, and haven't encountered such disruptions -- but people can be so thoughtless and irresponsible with their children nowadays that I suppose it's just a matter of time. I have been astounded several times to see parents accompanied by young children while viewing movies containing violence, nudity, language, and other materials unsuitable or downright traumatic for children. Just awful.
You'd have been well within your rights to step out of the theater and complain to the manager if other patrons were disturbing the peace and keeping you and other patrons from enjoying the movie you'd paid to see! If theater management was unwilling to ask the offenders to leave, I'd have asked for a refund.

Haven't read all the replies but just wanted to say that I hate going to movie theatres anymore. People are SO RUDE!!! Talking, phones ringing, texts beeping, feet kicking seats, babies crying, kids yelling. Stupid adults saying, "What did he/she say?" UGH!
I'd much rather wait and watch them at home.

On our local news they had a story about a woman and her sister in law went to the movies over the weekend and a bunch of teenage girls were talking next to next to them. One of the women asked them to stop and after the movie a gang of girls jumped them outside and beat them up. Among the injuries the woman had a broken eye socket and assorted bruises. She was braver than I'd be in this day and age I would never say anything to a stranger no matter how irked I was. People are just nuts anymore and it's not worth the risk.
