I used to drink tons of Crystal Light.  All chemicals - ugh!  I decided to start with making this change first.  Switched to water and also green tea.  It took a bit to actually enjoy the tea, but now that's the first thing I have when I wake up in the a.m., plus 2-3 more cups during the day.  Whenever I'm hungry, I go to the tea or water.

@SaRina  I like green tea too.  I prefer it cold though and mix it with lemon juice.  Peppermint tea is my go to hot one.

Re: Why don't they call "dieting" the "hunger games" ?

Also, it took me quite a few years to discover what my body requires and what I have to restrict.

I discovered that I'm carb-sensitive (as are a lot of people) and the more carbs I eat, the hungrier I am.  I have tested this out repeatedly with different breakfasts. Even oatmeal for breakfast will leave me hungry an hour or two later whereas eggs will keep me sated until lunch.  So restricting carbs and having protein-based meals has definitely worked for me.  In some ways, my body is better than it was when I was younger.

Everyone has to find what works for them in order to be successful for the long term.

@Ibby114  I have not tried that.  I'll put it on the list.  It sounds good.

@SaRina  That is so me.  Although I'm pretty good if I have a carb that is either not really like Ezekiel bread or has some added stuff to it like veggie pasta but with actual white carbs like an oatmeal it does go right through me also.

I'm usually an eggs and Ezekiel toast girl in the am and then I'm good until lunch time.

@Laura14 @Ibby114 - I'm afraid if I start trying flavored teas it will activate my sweet tooth, so I stick to the hardcore tea, lol.

Re: Why don't they call "dieting" the "hunger games" ?

A big part of the problem is that a lot of what we have been taught about healthy nutrition in the past several decades is not true. And if one is not researching or seeking info, one won't find the current science.

Many things I knew as important for losing weight & getting fit years ago have been proven to be incorrect. Some were simply well-marketed ideas to get us to buy things. I can just turn the basket upside down to find the truth.

Exercise has very little to do with weight loss. BUT the right kinds of exercise will reshape one's body. Think of nutrition (what & when one eats) as the cake & exercise as the icing.

I've been having tea (green, herbal, decaf, etc) with my dinner lately. I love all sorts of flavors.

Re: Why don't they call "dieting" the "hunger games" ?

I know people whose  weight never varies more than 5 lbs their entire life except pregancy. They don't do anything special they are just the size they are. Then I know people who are overweight and go by the book eating and excersing and they can't seem to lose. Then there is me, my weight flucates I can go from a 8 to a 12 and back to an 8. I get so sick of constantly thinking about my weight, right now I am working myself back down.

Genetics plays a big role in this- most of my younger adult life I was a size 12 or 14, I'd creep up to a 16 and then lose weight. In my 30's & on  though (I'm 57), that range crept up to a 1x or 2x- and getting back down has been a big challenge.I 'm a 12/14 now and my weight loss is sooo slow, it won't budge!!! I have to rev up my metabolism and exercise more regularly.
