Re: Why don't they call "dieting" the "hunger games" ?

@Ibby114  I have never tried liquid.  I have it in the pantry but I always use the packets.  I'll need to bring it out and try it.

@Trinity11  You can always start over at any time.  Obviously check with your doctors but good food is helpful anytime you eat it.

I don't have a perfect body eating the way I do.  I have had cholesterol issues because of those genetics and I come up borderline a lot every year which is not in my favor as I get older.  But  my body is the best I can get to right now and that's all you can ever ask of yourself.

I look at my genetic issues (of which there are many!) as a map of what to watch out  for- I've got 30 lbs to go (close to 80 lbs off so far) and I'm already feeling worlds better.  Mainitaining will be the real challenge!

@Ibby114  Congratulations!!  Heart

Maintaining is easy.  Your body won't let you get too low.  Just keep eating the way you are and add an extra meal or two when you get there and you'll do just fine.  Bringing back the bad habits and bad food will upset maintenance every time so don't do it!  Smiley Wink

So happy for you!!

One of my biggest challenges is in my mind seperating 'food' from 'celebrations'. Family gatherings were always about the FOOD - at one meal talking about the next meal, etc. The celebration needs to be about the special occassion, and food needs to be a side note. Changing  your whole mindset after 57 years is a beast!! Woman LOL

@Ibby114  OMG, you are so right!!  You are talking to an Italian where if you don't have "a little something"  (aka at least two to three plates) , you're rude.  I know my sister lost all breath in her body when I refused a piece of cake after Sunday family dinner.  Smiley Surprised

Here's the take-away from an article I read in the newspaper this morning on obesity in this country -

--women have now surpassed men on obesity

--40% of women in this country are obese

@qualitygal and others,

The word "diet", is taken by way too many, to mean losing weight. That is not the true definition or meaning of that word. I personally never use that word unless I am quoting someone, or in this case, addressing that word.

I prefer the definition of the word as follows: "to regulate one's food intake for the purposes of health,". This definition does not relate exclusively to losing weight, as so many seem to believe. While I prefer the definition of the word, as stated above, I choose to use the words "Eating Program", which can be defined without the context of meaning to so many,"losing weight".

@qualitygal, how do you know that "some do it so easily", unless you fully know what they might be doing that are very far from easy? I constantly heard from my co-workers and many friends, "why is it so easy for you to stay so slim"?

I never told anyone it was "easy", they drew that conclusion on their own. I did say to many of my co-workers after 8 hours of working in 100°+ heat, and throwing around hundreds of 60-70lb. reel of telephone wire this.

"Come follow me home and see just how easy it is for me". Just as in sports, or running a successful Adult Hockey League for 52 years, when done well people assume "it must be easy. Don't Olympic Figure Skaters make what they do look effortless? Then go out and put on a pair of ice skates and see how "effortless" it really is to just skate !

Sure, it might be "easier" for some, but "easy" for most? I think not, those around them just perceive it to be easy. I stated many years on the Wellness and Fitness Forum, for those without any serious health issues, the way to lose and control their weight, is the simplest one that has been known for decades.

Most need to "move more and eat less of only the foods" that energize their body the most. It involves determination/dedication and, for most, lots of hard physical and sometimes, mental strength.

As most have heard or even experienced, "losing weight is the easy part, maintaining it is when it gets harder".

THE END

I have a Fitbit and love it...it's been a great motivator.

You know what also helps? Have someone take a pic of yourself using your phone. If you're tempted to eat too much junk or do some mindless snacking, take a look at the pic. It just might help you to back away.

If you've been losing weight or have already achieved your goal weight, take a look at an old pic of yourself before you're tempted to eat something you shouldn't.

My motivator to get on track was a picture taken of me (with HS friends) in March 2015- omg!  Woman Surprised I need to keep that picture very accessible as a reminder!

I find that drinking plenty of cold water helps stave off hunger pangs, and keeps me well-hydrated.  Best of luck to you!

I used to drink tons of Crystal Light.  All chemicals - ugh!  I decided to start with making this change first.  Switched to water and also green tea.  It took a bit to actually enjoy the tea, but now that's the first thing I have when I wake up in the a.m., plus 2-3 more cups during the day.  Whenever I'm hungry, I go to the tea or water.
