One thing struck me, most students put no monetary limitations on their education. Rather than go to a less expensive state school and be part of their honors program, they wanted to go to to a "prestige" school, regardless of how many loans they or their parents had to take out. Forget about going to community college for 2 years then transferring to a 4 year college.
It seems neither parents nor counselors suggest more affordable and realistic alternatives.
ITA Lulu. That's an excellent point - if students know they will incur debt to finance college, do they really think long and hard about a putting a cap on it, how to maximize savings, and is this conversation even had between students/parents/counselors?
(and btw I got a D in Calculus so I'm in awe of you!)
I was a straight A math student and wanted to be a math teacher from a very young age...until I took AP Calc in high school.
I have no idea what happened. I got a D too.
Oh sorry...I think I went off on a tangent again.
