And by the way, speaking of education, could we all agree not to say "I could care less" ever again.
Oh, before I forget, lots of us don't come here much anymore for a lot of reasons that if stated, would turn this place nuclear.
Thank you for understanding, or not.
I could care less is my favorite poor grammar sentence to use. I will try to stop using it but can't make any promises!

Yes, it's toxic.
you've been squatting on this thread for hours on end.

I think the majority may be older folks but I know people in their 20s and 30s shopping on Q. One of them being my own daughter/son in law! Now they don't shop like I used to (used to being the key words) but they shop on Q too.

One thing struck me, most students put no monetary limitations on their education. Rather than go to a less expensive state school and be part of their honors program, they wanted to go to to a "prestige" school, regardless of how many loans they or their parents had to take out. Forget about going to community college for 2 years then transferring to a 4 year college.
It seems neither parents nor counselors suggest more affordable and realistic alternatives.
ITA Lulu. That's an excellent point - if students know they will incur debt to finance college, do they really think long and hard about a putting a cap on it, how to maximize savings, and is this conversation even had between students/parents/counselors?
(and btw I got a D in Calculus so I'm in awe of you!)

Going to a community college isn't all that it used to be. Some colleges look down on people who started there, like it or not. My BFF was the admissions officer for a university in this area.
San Francisco City College used to be the gateway to UC Berkeley. It was common to go to City for two years, then transfer to Berkeley. No more.

Noel, that's interesting. Especially in California, the state that pioneered accessibility to high ed and funded so many community colleges. I wonder why?
I haven't seen that where I live. The community colleges have transfer agreements with the public universities. In Arizona, where I lived before this, many students attend community college and then transfer. It's very common.
The only time I remember seeing a less than favorable attitude to community college was on the east coast when I was growing up. Not enough status. Funny story: My best friend in NJ went to William and Mary. Most of the others in our group went to UVA, Old Dominion, Colgate, etc. One friend went to the County College of Morris and then transferred to Fairleigh Dickinson. They kind of made fun of her. She got her accounting degree, eventually started her own firm, and now hugely successful...arguably more financially successful than any of us.

Yes, they used to be great around here. City also had a two year nursing program, they dropped it when requirements changed to four years.
What I think happened is that so many cutbacks had to be made at some level, city colleges suffered the most. SF City is really struggling now.

Noel, it's really too bad.
Two year colleges should be strengthened, not weakened. But, it seems like they are always first on the chopping block.

ALL companies will cater to the demographic(s) who will give them the most revenue,
In QVC's case, it's not just "who's watching", as more and more people are not. It's really who can almost-always afford to buy things, and in a consistent manner.
