Wish all teens ready to go to college aspire to be like Noel.

They can aspire all they want, but they won't be able to do it, not living on minimum wage and on their own.

I did it. *shrug* Paid off my student loans 20 years early, bought a house, have a paid-for car and I'm making twice as much as we ever had growing up.

You're reportedly 33, not 18 in 2014.

Check the Bloomberg chart on the rise in college costs over the past few years.

When we were in state college the tuition was high but affordable. The minimum wage that I earned had some buying power. Most younger people will not have the luxury of a pension either.

Yes, I understand the prices have increased since 1998. However, you're saying that it just can't be done nowadays. But it can.... my total student loan debt was around $63K and I paid it off 20 years early. Now let's say I got out of college in 2014 with 80K in student loan debt... if I did the exact same thing, I would still be out of debt super early. It can be done...it just takes some discipline and brains.

No, I did not say that. What I said was that it can't be done like it was decades ago.

Big difference.

Most people can't. They are usually married (with kids) and bought their first home. it's hard to pay off $1000 loan payment each month. My relative has this.

From HuffPo:

The average college graduate obtained a degree in 2012 with $29,400 in student debt, up from $18,750 less than a decade before in 2004, according to a new report released Wednesday.

Wow. I would've killed for only $29K in debt.

That's correct. A part-time minimum wage won't pay for tuition, room and board, books and living costs. Not without help.

Just out of college kids usually aren't married with kids yet or have bought their first home.
