That’s true @RetRN, but maybe we should all make the effort to point it out to the mods if they miss a post like that. They have a tough job & we could help.

I know of no one who respects a tattle tail.

When you do someone's job for them it implies that they're not up  to the task.

There is a difference between helping someone do their job and doing "someone's job for them".

Speaking for myself if I were part of a team of perhaps 5 and was expected to monitor more than a thousand posts a day across multiple forums, in addition to other duties, I would appreciate some help flagging inappropriate posts.  I would also appreciate insight into what others find inappropriate rather than relying solely on my own interpretations.   Of course I would not encourage vengeance reporting nor petty reporting nor attempts to "do my job" for me.

A little help would free me for other duties like complaint resolution, helping with customer service problems, answering customer questions and who knows what else.

But, that's just me.  I am not superwoman.

Thank you @Marp. That’s all I meant by “pointing out”. The mods do often miss snarky, off subject, political/religious posts. Helping them out once in awhile is not being a tattle tail. In my mind, it only helps our threads move along more smoothly.

Re: Why do posts go off the subject or turn mean?

It takes less time to scan through a half dozen threads than it does to look into a poster's complaint about a fellow poster. Not only do they have to check the post/thread but they need to look at both posters' other BB activity for patterns of wrong doing. If they find the post within standards then they have to consider if the informer is the wrong doer.

I have never helped a co-worker without being asked, nor would I appreciate a co-worker presuming to involve themselves in my job unless asked.

I have never reported a fellow poster, never will and think negatively of those who do.

(bolded by me)  This is something I've been saying for a long time, as a cautionary tale, about this board.   You can cruise this board on any given moment and find numerous things stated that are patently false.

I usually just end up backing out of threads where lies are stated as truths because it's futile to try and bring facts to somebody who repeats things that are not true. LIke one poster said here one day - they have decided that their opinions are facts.  That person was serious when he stated that his opinions ARE facts and that will not change.   What do you do with that degree of ridiculosity?    SMH

@chickenbutt  You could always ask for proof of their statement(s). Why let false information lie around for others to take as fact? That's contributing to their lies and allowing the misinformation to continue. Morally, I cannot do that.

Hi!  Oh, you are so right, and I totally acknowledge and respect that.  The problem here is that I have tried in the past to do just that.   They will never ever go back on what they said, and accept facts.   It just certain types of mindsets that do this and that's what you usually see here.  No amount of proof will convince them because they don't want to be convinced.  Their opinions, they think, are facts and I don't know - maybe they think they will lose face if they submit to facts.

After a while, it went from frustrating and became tiresome.  Now, other places where I hang out you can discuss things and facts are facts, so it's a lot more normal to try and discuss things when people act like adults.    As for here, I had to quit a long time ago.    I've been here for about 13-14 years now and I've pretty much seen it all, but the best part is that I've met some really great friends here.    That is priceless.  Smiley Happy

One prime example of trying to help was when somebody said to use 'peroxide' orally for something (can't remember what now).   Now, from the context, it was clear that the person meant 'hydrogen peroxide', but she did not say that.  So another poster said 'oh good, I just dyed my hair and I have some peroxide left, so I'll try that'.    I HAD to chime in on that one.   That is just something with inaccuracy, not a full-on lie, but it could have caused great harm.

I think it behooves us all, at least those of us who give a whit, to be honest, truthful, and accurate.  I see so much stuff here that's just off the mark but I don't have the time or energy to go around correcting people unless I'm worried that they are causing harm.

Scanning threads or alerts from the "report inappropriate" flags is only a small part of their job and those who use the alerts thoughtfully and with reasonable care allow them to save time.

I have no idea what other responsibilities the moderators have, but thinking of those we know about:  they monitor and reply on all of the QVC social media accounts (including those of the hosts), research customer purchase problems, read/answer email, send tech problem reports to the IT department, make customer-service phone calls, review the posts/threads that have been reported and that generated alerts...  and also perform general scans of the many posts in all the threads in all the sub-forums (far more than a half dozen, by the way).     The growing concerns we're seeing reported with QVC's shipping, returns, and incorrect order fulfillment also are adding to the pressure as does the holiday shopping (and it appears to me that 2 of the moderators no longer are here).   With all this, accurately judging their moderation of the forums is far more complex than it seems at first glance.

Also, posters don't report posts or threads without being asked.   The feature is there, so it's expected to be used.   It would be removed if the site management didn't want it to be activated.   In addition to that, the QVC Social Team has asked us to use it, in their published "Community Guidelines."

Hi @chickenbutt  Yep, those red flags are swinging in the breeze every day on these Forums! I've also learned to keep my mouth shut unless it's really, really serious stuff. And, I do remember the periodixe conversation! That was priceless. Thanks for helping that poster out!

You’re probably right, @proudlyfromNJ.   I also feel it’s inconsistent and confusing.

@dooBdoo.  Just wanted you to know things that have happened to me. I was banned for political and the other political persons post is still there. Why is that??

I'm sorry that happened to you,  @proudlyfromNJ.   Your posts are interesting and I've never seen you post anything I could imagine someone reporting (or the moderators seeing and removing, much less considering your comments "ban-worthy").   I don't know the answer to the "why," but I can say I've seen it again and again with certain posts removed and others left to stand -- it's happened with my own posts, and I found it puzzling.  eta:  You always could email the moderators to ask about it...  they've always been responsive and courteous when I've submitted questions to them.    At any rate, I'm glad you're here now.❤️
