Re: Why are so many previous program hosts coming back?

It seems to work well for a go-getter like Kirsten L.  She's representing a few different brands while building her social media presence.

Or perhaps working for a vendor with a reasonable schedule IS "greener".

I'm assuming they're covered for travel, hotel (if necessary), and a per diem for meals.

While seniority is definitely a factor, QVC hosts' schedules can be all over the place ... days, nights, weekends ....  ugh!

Being a QVC host is definitely not a 9 to 5 job, and wouldn't be something I'd be willing to do long-term.

Re: Why are so many previous program hosts coming back?

Back in the day, Host Kathy Levine published her book, which included a lot about QVC.  It actually was a good read interesting about the way things work, (or worked) at the Q.  If you can find it on eBay, or Amazon , it's fun. Kathy Levine, IITS BETTER TO LAUGH.  9.99@

Anyway, in the book it did describe the hours you never see, that they work. They are only on certain hours, at least in those days I think they had more hosts. She said they got list of products and went to meetings on how they worked, they went home with tons of reading on items they were to present. In those days many hosts did not have vendors , or rarely and were expected to know how everything operated and worked,  they actually tried products. And yes there speaks stuff she hated. The had meetings all the time.  Also when vendors came in, they met with them way before show and got to know them and the oroduct.

Re: Why are so many previous program hosts coming back?

They quit with grandiose ideas of fame and fortune.   However,  once out in the cruel world they find it's not so easy for a former show host to obtain other full-time employment without some sort of tech skills, especially not for the salary they're willing to accept and to which they've become accustomed.   Pretty faces are a dime a dozen.

Many people stay in boring jobs for years simply because, with their skill, they can't earn as much money elsewhere.

@Kachina624   my personal opinion .  From looking at posted wages on job places, zip line, etc... and knowing someone a while back who worked there in a plebe capacity , most NEW hosts don't make all that much money, (as people think)  Maybe for PA, but on a larger scale you make more money as asoftware engineer at QVC than a new host. I believe new hosts can start out a little over 76,000.   David is the biggest earner at guestimates of 400,000. I think he makes more than some hosts who have been there longer. It's none of my business, but starting pay as a host probably grosses as much as my grandson does at In N Out Burger here in Ca. He works full time right now, shift manager, has been there several years and makes about 84,000@yr. In CA grossing 84,000, before taxes, med and such doesn't afford a person to live on their own unless they are established, own their own place, etc. it's all relative.  I am sure many hosts who venture out sell to earn while they are young, and while job is available. If they are very ambitious they just keep working the angles and markets, gleaning from outside projects  also, many posted salaries also include benefits, retirement and other goodies like travel, per diem meals etc

@shoekitty

just happened to see this old thread (from the 1st), your grandson can at least get free supper (I assume) and from what I've heard those burgers are delicious although how many one can eat per month is questionable.

All kidding aside, the state tax in Ca though on a sliding scale is not for me, yes the weather and scenery is great.  I left Ca many years ago.

$84k is a lot in some small low populated city but then again so would be the wages, not easy in today's world but was it ever?

I remember when you could write off the interest on all your credit cards which lead people to take European vacations for a week or two brag about it and then use only their credit cards.  With that write off and the ability to write off one's mortgage interest too, people were making out like kings getting back huge refund checks.

But, I digress.  Wishing your grandson all the best.

Does anyone else find it odd that so many previous program hosts have come back to QVC to represent a product? It doesn't convince me to buy the product just because they are now the new ambassador for that brand.

They are likely being hired by the new media company operating QVC.  Many are now coming back as brand embassadors presenting vendor products.  Some even have their "own" line.  Haven't you noticed nearly all products are shipped via vendor with some purchases much faster than typical QVC and some products lagging in process up to 10+ days?  I have one such item 11+ days in process.  Called CS and reached offshore customer service - just spoke with a young woman her English was awful and couldn't help me.  wonder why they made all these changes right before the holiday season ?

I have no problem with it, a job is a job. People need them. Credibility doesn't bother me either, they are all selling. That's what they do. And I enjoy seeing a familiar face again.

Re: Why are so many previous program hosts coming back?

I have same question, specifically Jennifer Coffey and Kerstin Lindquist who both left a year ago with talk about all their future plans involving health and wellness, yoga etc. Niw they're back as vendors. I'll never be persuaded to buy 8greens or Harry Slatkin just  cos Kerstin or Jennifer are presenting them.
