Honestly, I don't remember. But back in the day when I had to there really weren't more then 3 or 4 channels that we were able to receive.

Same here...I sat on the floor closest to the TV, so I was the channel changer! But of course, there were only three channels, so it didn't take long.

Four or five years ago, maybe?

Way back when you had to pay extra to get a TV with a remote control my mother would immediately dismiss any salesman with, "The day I'm too lazy to get up and change the channel you may as well bury me!" Suffice to say you never see her without the remote control in her hand now. Of course back then you only really had like six or seven channels and even with early cable you would only get like twenty and you had to use a manual A/B switch to get all of those, so it wasn't like there was a need to channel hop much. Nowadays with 55 channels coming in over our antenna and over a hundred on cable you could be standing at the TV for a long time moving from channel to channel.

I don't even know where the channel buttons are. LOL
I think they are on the side.

Never, on our living room tv. We bought it in Dec and I don't even know how to do anything manually. Actually, I don't think we can, I think you have to use the remote.

I have no idea when I last did anything manually on the tv! I'd need a flashlight and the manual to find the controls on our tvs.
eta: I remember my first remote was for the vcr. It was not cordless.
