I understand. I have friends who feel the same way. My daughter’s paternal side is Jewish, We made sure she knew her history and holidays from that heritage as well as my heritage.

I think I know what cult she joined. If they are a cult as such, but their religion doesn't, believe Christmas is Christ,s BD. They believe it is the BD of the pagan sun God, so that is why they do not accept Christmas. I do not belong to that religion, but studied the bible with them for years and found it very interesting. The weather and climate when Christ was born and traveling in Winter would have been difficult for Mary and Joseph.

QVCaddiction..........it was a religious group (cult) in Massachusetts,. is this the group you were thinking of????? They are no longer together, and 1 member is in jail for life...(if you know the group then you know why)

I didn’t read all 21 pages....I may be repeating....but what I dislike about the holidays is taking down the tree and decorations. It’s slways a little sad to me.

They also didn't believe in any Holidays, EAster, birthdays, gave up going to weddings, Mother's day or Father's day, they gave away all their jewerly, women had to wear dresses, NEVER pants, men grew beards, didn't believe in the medical establishment, wouldn't go to the Dr., gave up wearing glasses, only books allowed were religious ones, only songs allowed to sing were religious ones...Banks were a no-no, only used cash, I could go on and on......they are not together anymore, some have died....and some have finally seen the light...

My husband would leave me home alone and go to her house xmas Eve and xmas day both I'd sit home with TV dinner. She never liked me and turned the rest of them against me, too. I outlived her !

i worked in retail for 20 years. we all use to say the holidays make people miserable. during the holidays was all the worst dealing with people.

I guess at 57 I'm old and jaded. As a child holidays were magical. As a mom raising little girls I enjoyed the holidays. My father was the first to die. Holidays weren't the same without him. Always that empty seat at the table. Next my adult daughter died. Family has different obligations. We all work. Holidays seem like a lot of hassle now. Quite honestly I just don't care like I used to. I love the music and the food but not much else anymore. My other daughter lives across the country. She is a minimalist so I can't even indulge my grandsons. I really sound like a Scrooge don't I? I never used to feel this way.

Years ago I disliked all the extra work and having a lot of people over that didn't seem to appreciate all of our effort. Now I hate missing my loved ones that are gone.
