This year it would be politics. Some family members are more passionate about it than others.

To the OP if you are an athiest why does it bother you? You should not be celebrating Christmas because its true meaning is the birth of Jesus. You can believe what you want but so can the rest of us. The people I know of different faiths do not mind the differences at least not around here.

I hate that my Dad died last year on Christmas Eve and now that I will have  an awful memory that I will have for the rest of my life, I guess I will have to be strong and make Christmas as special as I can for my family,

@SNAPPLETEA   I'm so sorry.

I have a sad memory of a Christmas Eve decades ago and I understand.

Sending you all the best for strength and hoping that you can take comfort with your family.

Well that's a new one. You are not allowed to celebrate Xmas  if you are not a Christian.

I celebrate it as a secular holiday since I am not Christian. It is a winter holiday for me. I celebrate with friends who are Christian, atheist and agnostic. We all accept each other. What a concept.

šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„.   Unbelievable.

Actually the OP did not state that she was an atheist anyway.

So if at possible don't be around him. No one and I mean "NO ONE " should have to be around people like that, I have to many relatives like that so I don't let myself be around them. Case Closed !!. Make yourself happy Please!! My hugs go out to YOU!! I learned Years ago, for my health not to do this to myself.

I am not the person you are speaking about here, but how many think of Christ at Christmas?  It,s more in today,s world about the stress and getting gifts.  How many people I have heard say at the time, I have so much to do and HAven,t finish my Christmas shopping, or I,'ll be glad when it,s over.  Or those alone or broke?

Years ago, Christmas was about love and Church  and Christ.  We had one gift each under the tree and fruit and nuts in our stocking.  We went to Midnight mass and a family dinner the next day.  The greed wasn't, there.
