You my dear are a wonderful person to take care of your mother and to try to forgive the ones in your family who have wronged your mother. It is better to try and forgive because you hold the anger in and they don't care or realize your feelings but you have to do it for yourself. It's hard but it will help you to heal. My heart goes out to you with the loss of your mother.

Nothing..I haven't done this for years.  I was raised Catholic, but I don't particularly think that what you give up matters much in the grand scheme of things.  (My view only.)

@cater If she hadn't been so young (early 60s), and so vulnerable due to illness, I might have been more forgiving. But family should not take advantage of loved ones at such a time!

Still, I figured for my own sake that I should try to let go of my anger, since as I said it's only hurting me at this point.  A good Lenten resolution!  I may forgive, but that doesn't mean I have to trust...😉

Giving up something for Lent is not a requirement anymore, it hasn't been for many many years.  It's voluntary.  I didn't give anything up this year.

Re: What did you give up for Lent?

In years past, I gave up chocolate one year, wine another, candy, etc.  I found that after a few days, it was no big deal.  So, at 71, I am not giving up anything....life is too short.  ( I'll do quiet acts of charity and offer them up instead. )

As I am not a Christian or religious, Easter and Lent are non-events for me.
