Go through my closets.... see what I REALLY HAVE TO WORK WITH... before buying more.

Save it.

I saved over a thousand dollars yesterday. Not bad for starting 2015.
There was a TV media console I found online and thought it perfect but really didn't want to spend that much. I managed to ingeniously fit a stepped-two-tier console table (that had been made into a computer table by a previous owner, left in the house when we bought it) over the small media stand we have. Hard to describe. It looks like one unit and now there is a space for the sound bar so it doesn't interfere with streaming media to the TV. I previously had a big slab of marble on top of the small stand to hold the wide sound bar. Now I'll get to put the marble back in the kitchen where it belongs and where I need it. Must buy new rubber feet for it first.
My husband was thrilled and raved about what a great idea that was.
I fully intend to ask myself if I can't find other ways to use what we have and ask myself if wants will enhance our lives or be rarely used.

One thing that stops me is do I really need it or just want it.

A budget set before the month begins, giving every dollar a name. You can find this free at your local library. Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover, near the back of the book. Or here.

The no. 1 way to save is to pay yourself first (if you receive a paycheck). Have money taken out of your paycheck and put into savings before it even hits your checking account.

Instead of eating out or grabbing a coffee while you're out, learn to cook and collect recipes for inexpensive, healthy meals and sides. There are many, many such recipes online.
You'll save a fortune.

Pay with cash. Leave the credit cards home.
I think I'm one of the few people left who pulls out bills/cents when shopping. Everyone else seems to pull out plastic. I only use credit cards for large purchases or GFB in an emergency.

I already do almost ALL the money saving tips . .. well I don't do coupons . . . and I don't eat out often. Sometimes I'll let an item ride around in the cart or carry in a department store while I ask myself do I really need/want it and many times the answer is no.
Still selling some excess on eBay and even found a group on Facebook for one of my collectibles and sold off quite a bit in December . . . Yay no eBay fees but still used PayPal for faster receipt of the monies and paid their fees but also used their services for creating invoices and shipping labels with a small savings on shipping fees to USPS.
I do think though . . . this year we need to spend some money and enjoy it . . . all savings and no spending gets old after a few years so we're overdue for some major spending.
