Letterman's sexism charges stem beyond his jokes and seemingly unfiltered quips. Some have accused the host of running a sexist working environment behind the scenes, a charge that was seemingly validated when Letterman himself admitted on air in 2009 to having extramarital affairs with several female staffers. In October 2009, the same month that Letterman made his confession, former Late Show writer Nell Scovell — one of the few female writers in the show's history — wrote a tell-all account for Vanity Fair, in which she describes her less-than-pleasant experience on his staff:
It seems that for a long time comedy has been a boy's club, let's hope that changes in the future.

Weren't his philandering consensual affairs? No?

Perhaps his transgressions didn't bring out these allegations because there were no allegations to bring out. What happened was consensual and although morally wrong, there is nothing criminal about a guy cheating on his wife.
I thought so, too @Lipstickdiva

From what I read No. He used his position and since I know a woman who worked for him, her opinion of his behavior was deplorable.

@Noel7...he was in a powerful position and slept with his staff. He could have chosen women outside of the workplace. Women didn't say no for the same fears...loss of employment. I highly doubt that a lot of these women had choices without consequences from Mr. Letterman.

A former student and cheerleader of mine majored in communications. She interned with ABC in NYC, then took a job with ESPN. She was a pampered, pushy, pretty blond. Many of my cheerleaders kept in touch and over the years we've had a few luncheons. She told stories how these young interns had competitions among themselves, who could get the most attention. (the higher up the position of the attention giver, the better) Attention was not limited to heterosexual. Back then, the more attention the better.

There are MANY men in HIGH places that have been rumoured or charged with harrassemnt.
They should all be removed or fired.

Consensual sexual behavior is not illegal between adults. As long a David Letterman did not force himself on women, he is not in the same boat with men who force themselves on women or who harassed or abuse.
There will always be flirting between coworkers. If one does not want to participate, that person needs to tell the other person to stop and that they are not interested.
Telling a woman that she looks sexy in “that” dress is not harassment either. It only becomes harassment if it is said often and makes the women feel uncomfortable. If so, she must tell the man to stop commenting on her clothing, etc. If he refuses to stop, then it is harassment.
i have been reading many opinions about this since appropriate behavior that is all over the news, and it is clear to me that there are many women who do not know the difference between, harassment, sexual abuse or consensual behavior.
If you are being harassed or abused, you will 100% know it immediately. You will not have to go home and think about it. You will know. That uncomfortable feeling and loss of dignity will be felt right away. You only have to think about how you are going to handle what just happened.

I highly disagree that all of his encounters were consensual. Just the fact that these women were his subordinates puts an entirely different light on the entire subject.
Does anyone really believe that these women just happened to jump into bed with Dave because they adored the man? Somehow, I don't believe that to be the case and he even apologized for his behavior.
