$88,000 in 1979. My parents bought their house in 1955 for $12,500. It recently sold for $675,000!!!

We did a land contract for our home with husband's G'Parents (G'Mom really since her husband passed; they earmarked DH to keep it in the family). This happened real early 1980s, we bought it outright/moved in in 1985. You'd flip out if you knew this house and what we paid for it. Practically everything stayed since that was her wish. We basically moved in with clothes and toothbrush in hand, so many pieces of furniture, until we weeded out what we didn't need nor want. Mortgage paid in full 5 years later.

my only home, $19,500, bought in 1958. The $500 was what they called a land grant, or down payment. Paid off in 20 years, and I'm still here. It is now valued at $125,000. My husband when living bought a 1972 Plymouth Van, it cost $19,600, and I remarked ,this van was more than our house.

First and only. We are still here and have no plans to go anywhere. $90,000 in 1983.

We bought our home in 1984 for $125,000. We're still in it, even though it was supposed to be our starter home. Living in Northern Virginia, or "Amazonia" as I've taken to calling our area, you couldn't get a condo for that price today.
