What Now-Defunct Local Stores Do You Miss?

Like other areas, we had so many local department stores here--Sibley's, McCurdy's, B. Forman's, The National, Edwards. Surprisingly, I even miss an old stationery store, Scrantoms, which offered things you can't find in other stores. Also, everyone of a certain age here remembers going to a women's clothing store, Krolls, with their moms.

I even miss other regions' local stores and have fond memories. When I was in college, we spent the weekend at a friend's small Ohio hometown, and there was an impressive store there called "The Hub." DH still has relatives in the Buffalo area (Amherst), and I used to look forward to stopping at AM&A's, a lovely department store, when we visited. I have to say, I miss those stores a lot.

How about you?

I miss The Bombay Co, cute items for the home and reasonably priced.

We used to have Howell's in the Denver area. My mom always let me shop there when I was a teen because the pricing was reasonable & we bought my HS graduation dress there. Hadn't thought about them in years until now.

Not on a local level, but I've always missed Woolworth's.

Sure, I remember Grants. The first place we'd head was to the parakeet department!

Castner Knott, Service Merchandise, The Jewel Box, The Cross Stitch Shop are some I miss.

The fudge shop. It was owned and operated by a very nice local woman who also featured homemade craft items from crafters in the area. I now mail-order my fudge from Phenomenal Fudge in Vermont, but miss visiting her shop.
