Re: What Are You Reading --- June 2014

If you're looking for a good beach read, try Silver Girl by Elin Hilderbrand. Not quite "chick lit" because the two main characters are fifty-ish, it's light reading but with characters you can care about. Meredith's privileged life crashed when her husband was convicted of bilking billions in a Ponzi scheme and everything was seized -- left with absolutely nothing, she's alone, devastated, vilified, broke, and afraid to be seen in public. In desperation she turns to her former friend Connie -- they haven't spoken in three years -- who reluctantly agrees to shelter Meredith at her beach house for the summer. As one reader said on Amazon, "Hilderbrand shows us the painful and very real aftermath of treachery, betrayal, and loss, regardless of their causes." As I read, I kept asking myself, "How would I have reacted? How would I have coped?" with both Meredith and Connie's situations.

Hi Mrs Sweetie Bear -

I just finished GARDEN SPELLS and loved it - thanks! Now I'm reading SWEET WATER by the author of THE LAST ORPHAN TRAIN and it's great too!

Just for clarification: Christina Baker Kline book is just "Orphan Train" . There are quite a few books out there about the orphan trains, but that was her novel. Wink It was a wonderful book so I'll check out here Sweet Water. Thanks.

I read The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. There was so much buzz about it because of the movie that I thought it would be a good idea to read it. It was excellent and I highly recommend it. The teens in the book are very mature and insightful.

It would be a good book club choice because of all the possible discussion topics. I doubt that I will see the movie, but I am very glad that I read the book. The kindle price is only $4.99. Good deal.

The movie is VERY GOOD, and very closely follows the book! We LOVED it!

Just finished Someone by Alice McDermott. Fast reading though it jumped around a lot between past and present.

Going to read Red Lily by Nora Roberts. Read the other 2 in the series a while back and want to finish it since it has been sitting on my shelf; have to find time to read my own instead of library books and this is the time since I'm caught up on those until I go back this week.

On 6/5/2014 BornToShop said: I didn't know how I would find a book that would top THE SECRET LIFE OF VIOLET GRANT but, then I read THE GARDEN OF BURNING SAND by CORBAN ADDISON...OMG! This book is steeped with an Africa I never knew who's beauty ever existed. This book is also action packed with a court room drama that will have you turning the pages at lightening speed. If you like a beautifully written account of justice, family & love, this book is for you. What outstanding books have been released so far this year!

Just started The Secret Life of Violet Grant based on recommendations here. This board is great. I can already tell I am going to love it. I am not good about describing books. Go to amazon to read what the story is about and the reviews. Just put The Garden of Burning Sand on my next to read list. I love sitting outside on my deck in the Summer and getting lost in a book.

Save The Date, Mary Kay Andrews. Light and fast read but very good way to kill a couple of hours.

Re: What Are You Reading --- June 2014

Just finished a wonderful book that is very difficult to describe so I'll give the amazon link:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Imperfectionists-Random-Readers-Circle/dp/0385343671/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&q...

One of most acclaimed books of the year, Tom Rachman's debut novel, The Imperfectionists, follows the topsy-turvy private lives of the reporters and editors of an English-language newspaper in Rome.

Each chapter follows a different person at the paper over a period from the 1950's to the present as if chronicles the changes in the news reporting business over that time. VEry different from anything I have read before.

Re: What Are You Reading --- June 2014

I just finished the two books by Katherine Spencer based on two of Thomas Kinkade's paintings. Now I'm about to start A Change of Plans by Nora Roberts which is two romance stories in one book. One is about a reporter who has to interview a writer who ends up falling for him which is called Second Nature. The second one is called Summer Desserts about a dessert chef who goes to work at a Hotel and falls in love with the hotel owner. Can't wait to read them. I also have two more romance books on the way.
