Re: What Are You Reading --- April 2014

Had to put The Cuckoo's Calling aside for a bit as the library called that my hold was ready on The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk-Kidd, which is my book club choice for April. There are a couple of us who aren't that enthusiastic about this choice who don't want to buy it and I will have to speed read and pass it on before the 20th.

Will get back to Strike and Robin soon, I hope.

Re: What Are You Reading --- April 2014

I finished Joel Rosenberg's latest book, "THE AUSCHWITZ ESCAPE", which was excellent. Hard to read, as most Holocaust books are, but very well-written. After that was Mary Higgins Clark's new thriller, "I'VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN", which was pretty good; a quick, enjoyable read, very typical of her style. Next, I am starting David Rosenfelt's new stand-alone book, "WITHOUT WARNING", which has very good reviews.

I'm reading my dear friends books "Big Honey Mysteries". She has three out now and they are all very good if you love dogs. She based the stories on her dear, recently departed, great dane Honey. Her name is H. Y. Hanna. Curse of the Scarab and A Secret In Time are the two books and her Christmas one is Message in A Bauble. Great books for younger readers too. Available on Kindle and in paperback.

I finished WHERE'D YOU GO, BERNADETTE? It was quirky and offbeat, a nice departure from my usual choices. Now to thumb through samples on my Kindle for my next good book!

I'm currently reading I am Livia by Phyllis T. Smith. It's one of the Kindle First offerings this month from Amazon. This book was a finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award a few years back and I read the excerpt then and enjoyed it, so now that the whole book's available I'm giving it a read. So far, it's excellent.

Re: What Are You Reading --- April 2014

I just ptb after 50 pages on Vintage Attraction by Charles Blackstone. I wanted to like this book since it was about wine and had an interesting plot about a man who falls in love with a sommelier via her talk show (he writes to her). It was boring!

Onto Jackie Collins Confessions Of A Wild Child which is when Lucky Santangelo was a teenager. Sort of a pre-sequel I guess.

According to my Kindle, I'm 81% through The Goldfinch. At first I liked it, then I thought it dragged through the middle. I'm withholding my opinion until I finish.

After this book there are two Temple Grandin books I want to read.

I found a copy of SARAH'S KEY. It sounds interesting so I'll give it a try.
