Funny @Goodie2shoes , I didn't feel yours but we did feel the 5.1 here in Southern California last night. It was many, many miles away but we felt the slight roll.

Yep @Teddixat . It was awesome we found out the center of the earthquake in less than 2 minutes. I immediately googled latest earthquake and it already had the magnitude and location 2 minutes after it happened.

An earthquake, that's scary, hope everyone is okay. I only experienced one on a visit to Cali and it scared me to death. It was small and the locals said "oh, that was nothing"! to me it was giant! HUUUUUGE to me.... to them a lil bump in the night. ![]()

I live in Indio and the earthquake last night was about 10 miles north of my development. It was downgraded to about a 4.9 but felt much stronger since it was so close. I thought the windows in my house were going to get blown out. Everything rattled and shook, don't know how there was no damage. Thought for sure there would be. My poor cat zoomed under the dining table and after each aftershock ran behind the TV on my office hutch. She felt all the aftershocks that I didn't. I only felt 2 of them.
I am a transplant from northern CA and went through the Loma Prieta earthquake years ago. They are really scary and when they start up you just hope and pray that it will stop quickly and not be The Big One.

It's understandable, since it was a new experience for you.
As a Native Californian, I don't move unless it seems like it's not stopping, and how intense the shaking is.
We had one last night, 5.0 I think. something that I did not even feel. I believe I was in the shower, and people were talking about it on the FB group for my city that I belong to.
I was thinking, what earthquake?

I could never live in Cali, though it's the prom queen of the USA - gorgeous, super nice, and abundantly natural in it's glorious beauty - but that lil shake scared the daylights outta me. So unlike Prom Queen Cali - I'm in the stable footing Philly!

I think it's what you get used to? I am in California, in earthquake zone. We live by 3 faults. I am born and raise here,as have were my parents and grandparents. Both my grandparents and parents don't remember quakes much as kid. They missed the 1906. I don't remember many of significance as a child either. I do remember quakes that scared me senseless since maybe 1983. We were smack in 1989 quake. I had post traumatic symptoms for years after that!, the sound and feel of a heparage door closing made my heart goo... After the '89 quake I realized the high standards of building in CA,have made things less scary. But there is dread of "the Big One". Other states have hurricanes, tornados and so much flooding. Tornadoes and hurricanes scare me silly. I guess it's the dog you know? I think it's the surprise of a quake too. Never know. We can get alerts now, but no always.
ETA. I couldn't leave California though. Quakes to me are lesser evils than tornados and hurricanes. Just me
