Would you buy a cardboard cutout picture or a real thing, that someone makes look really good to bite into?
Thinking pre Covid of course.

I only see a tiny portion of the display actually cut, squeezed, etc.
I don't know if the rest of it is even "real" food. Much like the advertising for fast food on commercials, a lot of it that isn't touched may be "enhanced" for visual purposes.
And the truth of the matter is, we can speculate till the cows come home. We don't know what happens to the displays after presentation.

I prefer to concentrate on reducing or eliminating my own wasteful behaviors than sit in judgement about a commercial enterprise that I have no influence over and who could not care less about my opinion. Just another frequently repeated complaint made to make the initiator feel relavent and superior.

I was thinking the same thing....if the hosts and crew dont it eat the food due to Co-Vid concerns I can understand it....but really do these prep chefs need to prepare an unnecessary LARGE volume for their food display presentations????? ----too many trays of this expensive meat was wasted when just a small sample of what you get when you buy it would seem to be enough..SMH
I know before Co-Vid if the food was freshly made (demonstrating a skillet for example, or taken fresh out of the oven) the crew would eat it or take it home.... But food rules prohibitated them from donating cooked food to charities for distribution due to health and food safety issues...

In the past, the crew ate the food or took it home. I don't know about now during covid if they do or don't.
Here's my take on it.
I hate to see food waste too. I know there are people who would eat it. But.....the amount of food wasted on the presentations is really minimal in my opinion, relative to what is/can be done with the money generated by the sales.
QVC and some of the food companies participate in various food charities. If QVC, the hosts and the vendors and the food companies weren't making a ton of money by selling this food (and a big part of high sales is seeing the food and experiencing it to some degree as they show it) there would be that much less going to the charities.
The hosts and vendors they hire to do this (not to mention all the behind the scene people to make these shows) make very good money. Many of them are taking their money and giving to all kinds of charities, including food charities. I hear them talk on air about the various causes they support. If they were making less money, because they sold less products, they'd have less to give.
So while I don't like waste, sometimes you have to waste a little of something to make a much bigger impact on the larger picture.
Just a thought.

@Desertdi wrote:The Q display "waste" is NOTHING compared to what grocery stores have to toss every day because of expiration dates, damaged packaging, etc. ..... (or you can compare it with the world population.....or a dumpster behind a restaurant)
In my city, stores have arrangements with various shelters and charities to pick up food they can't put on the shelf (damaged or open is trashed though). Charities say the food is gone before noon.
Expired on lots of food doesn't mean it's bad, just that it needs to be eaten right away.

Re: your comments about the OP eating filet steak.......
<<unbelievable at best, an outright lie at worst.>>
A really cheap shot.
Come to my house and you will find that when we eat steak, it is usually filet. And when my DH buys the meat, he usually hunts for prime-grade filet, not USDA choice.
We are not "snobs", and I am not telling any lies.
We don't eat steak every day or even every week. We just don't waste money or enjoying a good meal on tough meat full of fat and gristle.
We eat hamburger as easily as steak. We don't take expensive vacations, go on cruises, or even pay for movie tickets. We like good food at home and in restaurants, when we actually could dine out before the virus hit.
If that's food snobbery, it shouldn't even warrant a comment from anyone else.

I probably shouldn't say anything but.....
@Annabellethecat66 has said she's well off and I believe her. I don't understand why a person wouldn't take her at her word. I think she's a nice person that happens to have money. Like Oprah has said, why try to hide being rich? I've never considered her bragging, I consider her being herself....a nice person that happens to be rich and is not ashamed of it.

@Mmsfoxxie I think there are a number of people on these boards have 'money'. It really is not so unusual. They just haven't had a reason to speak about it.
