Just chalk it up to being in Walmart. It is a despicable place imho, and I hate that I am sometimes forced to go there to pick up meds for my grandkids. I think it was nice of you to want to help the cashier.

No one is forced to shop Walmart, it is a choice.  You can stand by your principled or not.

I quit going to my local Walmart.    They now have SEVERAL angry-looking "inspectors" at the self-checkout area.    It is quite intimidating.

I now go to the next town where they are much friendlier.

Sad to say the "inspectors" are there due to so many people not scanning all their items - I know someone who will have a handful of clothes and will scan the cheapest one and use that same tag over and over on their more expensive items.  Theft at scanning stations is quite frequent which is why so many stores are going back to cashiers.

@chlema

I'd think that the cameras are evidence of theft in most cases, but people try to scam anyway.

Last week I stopped in a local Kroger (not my regular store) and brought in a few used plastic bags with me.  I picked up a few things and checked out.  Suddenly my screen said Help is on the way (???) and an employee came to me.

The problem was I had checked everything out correctly, but left the couple empty plastic bags in the cart.  Apparently the camera above me thought I hadn't scanned everything in my cart, so it paused my order and alerted the authorities.   lol

Anyone who'd steal when they KNOW they're on camera is either very good ... or very stupid.

You should have just kept walking! Quite frankly there is NOTHING they can do at Wal*Mart about the register except call the company! They come in and handle everything. CS has zero to do with the cashiers. There are steps to take for the cashier and she would notify the CSM if needed or as she did simply hand enter the information in! It's not that big of a deal. LOL You did nothing for her day.

Exactly! However WHY are we even talking about Walmart on a QVC site? It seems to me too many people seeking attention these days for frivolous things that are none of their concern! LOL

I don't know about anyone seeking attention, but as you can see from all the list of topics, including Pet Lovers, Travel, Among Friends, etc., it surely isn't just about QVC.  The forums can mention Wal-Mart or just about anything else, with probably the exception of politics or religion.

People are talking about Walmart on a QVC site because QVC has allowed us a message board filled with different categories where posters can discuss a wide variety of subjects, as long as they are within the guidelines. That's one thing I really like about QVC.

I think when it comes to things like a non functioning scanner I am more likely going to chalk it up to user error. I would have kept on walking and not said anything.

I prefer using the self checkout registers. I place things in my cart, especially items that are heavy and won't be removed from the cart, with the barcode facing up and easily accessible. I never paid attention to any employee surveilling my behavior. I'm not doing anything wrong, so I don't care who or what they're looking at.
