It might be a regional thing.

The Walgreens here (NYC - just around the corner) is less expensive for grocery products (ex. cereal, canned goods, TP, paper towels) than my local supermarket.

And other "drugstore stuff" for instance -  Tresemme hairspray - was 2 for $10 - which is a ballpark amount elsewhere.  I had $5.00 "clip" for the purchase of 2 Tresemme products.

I have to agree with you that it must be a regional thing.  Around here, CVS is consistently higher on most everything compared to Walgreens. Walmart's prices beat Walgreens, but then Walmart tends to beat everybody pricewise.  Convenience-wise, not so much.

@Jinlei @Love my grandkids   I have had a Walgreens account for years, but noticed I haven't received Walgreens emails since September.  Is that when they ditched Balance Rewards in favor of a new rewards program?  And they wanted me to sign-up for the new program?

@ValuSkr

Yes, I think so.  I registered for the new program (just a moment or two at the register) and still get emails.  As others have said, actually more coupons and price breaks.  And the point system for purchases still exists.  When I checked out the other day, the cashier asked if I wanted to use my $5 credit from the points, so my bill was $5 lower.

We do have CVS stores here.  There are two wthin walking distance.  That's where I shopped before Walgreens moved in a couple of years ago.

No Walmart stores in NYC .... closest is in New Jersey.

So - Walmart only competes with CVS and our rather small supermarkets.
