IRS Tax Date Changes from April 15 to May 17

If you are a procrastinator, you have until May 17 to file your 2020 taxes.  That gives us an extra month.

That sounds good to me.

Especially since my accountant hasn't finished mine yet.

As of the minute that I am posting this, the IRS has not confirmed that, but it is likely they will soon, according to Bloomberg.

"Officials at the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday afternoon."

Yes, several sources are reporting it.

@geezerette  But not the IRS (as of this minute), which would be the proper organization to say whether it is true or not. But I am sure they will respond, and they probably will extend. Makes sense. "Several sources" does not equal IRS.

@World Traveler

True, but when one of the sources is a congressional committee "applauding the IRS decision", I'd assume it's pretty darn close to happening.

@geezerette Yes, that would be a good indication. Smiley Happy

I'm not a procrastinator, but I need extra time, due to issues I can't control.  Happy to hear this news!

That's good to hear!  I haven't been in the mood to do my taxes!  The folder is still sitting on the dining table.
