VIRGINIA AND WISCONSIN ART LOVERS

Americans_In_Spain_PR_11_Lawson_Segovia.jpg1-Custom.jpg

Lucky Wisconsinites and Virginians!   I was just reading an art critic's reveiw of a traveling exhibition:

So, Covid permitting, this exhibit,   "Americans in Spain:  Painting and Travel, 1820-1920" is right now at:

The Chrysler Museum of Art,  Norfolk, Virginia.

Now through May 16, 2021

Then at:

The Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

June 11-- October 3, 2021

Wow, it sounds so good.   This exhibit highlights the experiences of American painters soaking up the incredible art heritage of Spain, and their resulting art output.

Even people like Mary Cassatt were there.  I think of her soft pastel renderings of mothers and children, but look at this moody, vivid example of her Spanish work:

Other important figures painting there during that time were Thomas Eakins, Childe Hassam, Willliam Merritt Chase, and John Singer Sargent, among others.

The critic noted that also included in the exhibit are works of the Spanish artistic counterparts and friends of the American artists painting there.  So it would be interestingly cross-cultural too.

Sounds like it would be huge fun.

I like those Bavaria German castles like Ludwig II built.

that was the inspiration for Disney castle.

I would love to be able to enjoy that exhibit.  I love these kinds of traveling exhibits of historical events, not just artists, but of jewelry (I suppose jewelrymaking is an artform) and the ones of industrial inventions, etc.

@Oznell   Thank you for sharing this!  I visit my mom in Suffolk, VA, and Norfolk is a stone's throw away.  Depending on the restrictions in May, I definitely plan on checking this out.

Will have to see how things are going in Milwaukee County by the time it arrives. I hope this health crisis is gone soon. There's the Milwaukee Brewers too and we couldn't attend their games last year.

Re: VIRGINIA AND WISCONSIN ART LOVERS

Chicago also has a super exciting art exhibit that I'm going to Wednesday morning.  It's the US debut of the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit.  If you watched "Emily in Paris", you may remember it.

No sunflowers on their website, but found these to share.

The artwork is projected onto the walls in 35 minute loops.  It is recommended to stay for at two showings.  All covid protocols to be followed (trust me, the mayor would shut down anything she didn't think was safe.). I'm very excited!!
