I pay for "uninsured motorist" on our vehicles policy. Seems like nowadays there are way too many with no insurance, but still just "motoring along anyways". Never had any crashes so not sure how, and if it works. Hopefully I will never have to find out.

In the incident I cited, my friend was actually walking. She has lived in the city all her life, never learned to drive, never owned a car, never felt the need - so of course she had no car insurance of her own. She was a pedestrian hit by an uninsured driver. I probably should have mentioned that.
And yes, I do hope you never have to find out. Keep driving safely! :-)

Why get a license, or insurance, or whatever when the courts protect them and the citizen is left with the burden.
Protect who? There are millions of people here who are not citizens. They work here and pay taxes here. Are we supposed to not let them drive? Massachusetts has many elite universities and hospitals. Students and researchers come from all over the world to study and work. Is that the "them" you are talking about?

The statement about the passport and driving in MA is a LIE.
Thanks for calling that out.
I was just about to comment on that. I read it at least 3 times, trying to understand. In MA only a passport is needed in order to drive? How could that be possible? I did some quick research, and found nothing to support this.

@bathina While I applaud you for standing up to blatant untruths, I feel that you are fighting a losing battle. You cannot use reason to convince some people.

My DH was hit by an unlicensed, non-insured, and not a legal citizen. My husband was standing in our driveway and this person not used to driving on snow and ice swerved off the road and into my husband as he was walking in from the mailbox. Of course, I have a strong opinion about illegals.

To be fair, there are a lot of people who were born here who don't know how to drive on snow and ice, and swerve all over the place.
But please, continue to show your true colors about race.

I did not lie.
In Massachusetts you are allowed to drive legally with a passport for 6 months.

i see where you can drive in massachusetts if you have a foreign drivers license (and meet certain requirements), but cannot find anything that says you only need a passport?
https://www.mass.gov/service-details/driving-in-massachusetts-on-a-foreign-drivers-license
Driving with a Foreign License
Legally, a foreign visitor from one of the countries listed in the 1949 Road Traffic Convention list can drive with their foreign license for up to one year from the date of arrival in the United States.A list of countries with the one-year privilegecan be found here: http://www.massrmv.com/rmv/dmanual/appendixA.pdf.However,this is designed for short-term visitors and not for students who are establishing residency. As an international student on a student visa, you are required to obtain a Massachusetts driver’s license if you plan to drivea car. NOTE: As a student, you can get a ticket for not having a proper Massachusetts driver’s licenses you are now considered as a Massachusetts resident

I'm not sure where I accused you of lying. Whether it's true or not is irrelevant. People come to Massachusetts from all over the world to study and work. They are not citizens. Would it be a good idea to prevent them from driving?
