Re: US Treasury Check Still Not Cashed.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 Just curious.  Would they have taken a cashier's check?

Just curious again, anyone know if they had requested it back later, would they have charged interest?  That doesn't seem fair.

Re: US Treasury Check Still Not Cashed.

This is from the EIP/Internal revenue website...

If the payment was a paper check:

  1. Write "Void" in the endorsement section on the back of the check.
  2. Mail the voided Treasury check immediately to the appropriate IRS location listed below.
  3. Don't staple, bend, or paper clip the check.
  4. Include a brief explanation stating the reason for returning the check.

If the payment was a paper check and you have cashed it, or if the payment was a direct deposit:

  1. Submit a personal check, money order, etc., immediately to the appropriate IRS location listed below.
  2. Write on the check/money order made payable to “U.S. Treasury” and write 2020EIP, and the taxpayer identification number (social security number, or individual taxpayer identification number) of the recipient of the check.
  3. Include a brief explanation of the reason for returning the EIP.

For your paper check, here are the IRS mailing addresses to use based on the state:

It took two months, as I stated above, for the personal check I wrote to return my deceased MIL's EIP... they're probably over whelmed and short handed..  Everyone's return will eventually get taken care of.

It clearly says ON THE ENVELOPE to check this box if the person is deceased---box is right below where the stamp would be located. No need to wait 3 weeks or even contact the government. I got my brother's check, didn't even open the envelope, checked the box and put it in my mailbox to go back.

@geegerbee   I didn't receive a check for the stimulus money, it was direct deposited into my account.

They just dumped $2400 into the account and I only should have gotten my $1200.

I don't want something that is not mine in my possession.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 I didn't see anything to worry about with MIL's money- it was deposited into our account because our accountant had what little bit of taxes she got back deposited into our account, as her address had been changed to ours.. I'd love to know the amount that wasn't sent back..  no worry as it was their mistake..

Re: US Treasury Check Still Not Cashed.

It is a small issue, but it indicates a lack of organizational control. The problem I am now concerned about is the Stimulus Plan, or lack of it.  We are not prepared for massive homelessness.  Congress went on vacation and is now home for the weekend.  Whatever they do won't help the people who are being thrown out of their rental units or foreclosed on beginning today.  They need the money right now.  They had jobs and income, but they suffer today because government failed to develop and systematically implement a plan to deal with the virus and the residual economic impacts.

Where will 12 million renters go?  What about the children?  How will they eat? What happens to their things?  An address is critical for many things in society.  A place to get your mail; checks and correspondence; packages from QVC; it determines where you vote, and the positions you can vote for;  where your children go to school; your 2020 Census information; and employment, as many jobs won't hire you without an address.

Are we going to provide food kitchens with hot prepared meals for 12 million homeless people?  Will we have massive homeless shelters?  WIll states have to take charge of millions of children in orphanages?  The cost to cover these operations would be enormous.  Where would that money come from? Where is the national plan to get the virus under control, then get us from widespread unemployment to some sense of normality?

The tiny $600 they are talking about giving workers is peanuts compared to what we are now facing, and that money will go right into fueling the economy.  In many cases the money won't stay in those households 24 hours. They don't seem to understand that it is the little people that fuel the economy.  If rent is not paid, foreclosure will follow for many owners, then pension funds or others that provide funds for mortgages will suffer financially.  If we, the little people have money, the economy works.  If we don't have funds, every thing falls.

Beyond individuals, there remains states, local governments, and hospitals that need money to keep people working and providing much needed services.  Congress needs to run back to Washington, get to work early Monday morning, and get the Stimulus Plan in place right away!
