@jellyBEAN   I don't play that.  She would have heard from me the minute I saw her.  That's just "me" though.

Some communities do have a limit on the number of bags permitted. This is especially true for those offered a senior discount. Go over your limit, and you are billed additionally.

Also, you have no way of knowing what may be in her bag. It could be anything from stinking seafood, to broken glass, not rendered safe syringes or knives, to illegal contraband or body parts. You don't know. You should not have to be faced with the situation. Your neighbor showed you zero respect.

@Etoile308  she could be discarding nefarious items for all anyone knows.  Nevermind stinking seafood.

Rummaging in someone's trash is not against the law in some localities.  The minute you set it out it's fair game @SilleeMee because it becomes "public property".  I put out the trash and hope the garbage collectors take it.  Where I live, though no one is supposed to remove your garbage except sanitation workers.

Even though it's after the fact you could still mention to her that you saw her use your trash can & would have appreciated being asked ahead of time.  Maybe you were planning on filling it up in the morning & needed the room.  She shouldn't just assume it's ok to take up your space.

I don't see what the big deal is.  I live alone and have the same size trash bins that my neighbors do that have families.  We all put three bins out the night before because yard waste and recycling come at 7 AM - garbage pick up is a couple hours later.  My neighbors use my trash cans whenever they need to.  I would do the same if I needed to.  We all pull the trash cans back into our yards after pick up.  What I wouldn't like is to live somewhere the trash cans are at the curb all the time.

I love confronting people.  My daughters tell me I'm going to get shot.  I'm not stupid and weigh when to address the idiots and if I feel like 1 time thing to let it go.

In that case I'd go the sneaky route and send a letter to HOA asking them if I type up the letter reminding each homeowner to use their own cans, it the HOA would send out to each homeowner.

If they don't get the message I'd go a little further.

OH!  And like someone said..."Get a ring video thingy".

Yes, I know that. But I still don't like someone going into my trash and scattering it outside the can and causing littering (that's illegal) where I would be to blame. Plus that attracts animals to come around. No thanks.

Guess I'm blessed to live in a neighborhood where petty things like trash are not an issue.  My trash barrel is barely filled and I could care less if neighbors use mine.  Why would I care about such an inconsequential thing.  My neighbor has used mine a few times and brought in the can soon as it was picked up.  Actually whoever is out first moves neighbors bins.  There are bigger things to challenge us besides trash.

I don't live in a HOA (thank goodness!), and I leave my garbage can out front all the time.

Why?

I would rather that someone throws their trash in my garbage can, than on the street.

If a neighbor used my garbage can for their trash?

Wouldn't bother me any.

I think I'd go a different route and use this as a chance to perhaps be friendly with this neighbor.

If her can was already full and you had room in yours, what's the big deal?  I'd tell her you noticed she needed to put something in your trash can and tell her it's fine.

In fact we offer our neighbor the use of ours if theirs is full.  We all pay the same amount but they have a family of 5 and there are just the two of us.

Now if this woman doesn't have a can at all and does not pay for pick up ever, that would be another matter! I would not be pleased about that!

The former and current and still "MrsSweetieBear".
