Regarding my trash receptacle timeline, I normally sleep in pj's and stay in bed until about 7am, but I must feed my cat and try to be productive.  I wake up much earlier, say around 6:15-6:25am, but I just lay in bed usually til 7 so the day doesn't seem too long.  And as I said, my cat wants her morning meal.  Me?  Not so much.

On Monday mornings - trash day - I get out of bed a bit earlier because lately they've been coming to pick up the trash early - usually by 7:30am.  It used to be around Noon when they came, so after missing pick up once, I make sure to get up and get going earlier than usual.

So the timeline was me getting out of bed around 6:30am, opening up my blinds, fussing over the cat, opening my garage door and wheeling the trash out.  Sorry, I didn't have my watch on and I wasn't timing my every move, but I would estimate it was about 6:40/6:45am when I had my trash out at the end of my driveway.  I then walked back inside my garage - probably checked on a few flowers along the way, deadheading and such, closed my garage door and went about my business.

It was probably 5 or 10 minutes after this I happened to look out my glass storm door and saw the lady across the street waddle over with her hefty bag, lift up the lid of my trash bin and dump her bag in there.  How do I know if it was leaking?  Well, perhaps it was the juicy watery spillage I saw when after the trash was collected and I checked my can for remnants before wheeling it back into the garage.  Well, you say, how do you know it wasn't your leakage?  Being the neat freak I am I put my garbage bags inside a larger trash bag because I don't like juicy watery spillage on the bottom of the can.

My kitchen trash bags are only 8 gallon.  I am only one person, and a cat, so I can fit my trash bags for the week inside a much larger green hefty type trash bag.  I also use my garbage disposal, for my fruits and vegetables and also do some composting with larger things such as watermelon rinds, cantelope skins, sometimes oranges/grapefruits etc....

I thank you for all your opinions and suggestions.  If the timeline wasn't correct down to the minute, it was approx. as I wasn't wearing a watch or looking at a phone.  I was just going about my morning routine minding my own business.  After the trashy neighbor made her disposal in my bin, the garbage was then picked up soon after.  After they picked up my side of the street, they turned around and then did her side of the street.  I'm friendly with my immediate neighbors, all except for her for whatever reason, so I'm content keeping it that way.  I don't bother you, you don't bother me and that's how I feel about it.  I posted here cause I wondered what the majority of folks would say.  I did enjoy reading everyone's thoughts on the subject.  Woman Very Happy

@jellyBEAN Thank you! That makes a lot more sense to me now. Of course you did not owe it to us to explain. It would have been fine by me to remain confused on the topic.

If you ever need to make a civil complaint or really push the HOA about the topic, you could just come back to this forum and copy and paste this detailed play by play.

If it bothers you I would mention it to her if you see her. When I read trashy he I or I just had to read what it was. I saw a lady a few years ago when garbage was put out.I saw her open a neighbors recycle bin and take out mail .read it , rip it up and throw it on the ground. I'm like.who does that.

At about 6:30am, I was opening up my blinds and front door to get ready for the day, and I noticed the lady who lives across the street, carry over a large trash bag filled with her trash and dump it in my receptacle.  Trash pickup here is Monday am.

I am not friendly with this woman.  She is just a neighbor who lives across the way.  She has other neighbors she is friendly with on either side of her.  Why didn't she put her trash in one of their receptacles?

I was going to confront her about it, as I have enough of my own trash to deal with, but at 6:30 am I wasn't dressed (still in pj's) and I didn't want to begin my day with confrontation.

I wonder how many times she's done this.  If she would have asked me nicely I would have told her fine, but she just dumped it in there without a care in the world.  And like I stated, we are not friendly.  She never waves or even bothers to look in my direction, so I have learned to treat her the same.  I have no business with her at all.

What do you think?  Should I file a complaint with the HOA?  or just let it go, and if I catch her again, then deal with it.  I could have pulled her big trash bag out of my can and threw it on her lawn, but I didn't.  So far I am leaning towards just letting it go this time, but if she wants to be a rude crummy neighbor, I'll have to change my tune.  What say you?

Interesting thread, although I haven't yet read every comment.

This also has the beginnings of a horror movie script.

You think she is just sneaking around, dumping trash in others' receptacles, but a murder mystery writer would have a couple body parts in that bag.  It was placed in another's trash so if the police try to back track the source, if there was anything with your name in your trash, like an old receipt, homicide detectives would come ringing your door bell.

I don't live in a HOA (thank goodness!), and I leave my garbage can out front all the time.

Why?

I would rather that someone throws their trash in my garbage can, than on the street.

If a neighbor used my garbage can for their trash?

Wouldn't bother me any.

I don't have a HOA, either, but there is a county ordinance against leaving your can at the curb when it's not a garbage pick up day.  Its considered unsightly.

By "out front", I mean my tiny front yard. There isn't a fence around it, so my trash cans stay in my front yard. It's close to the curb, but not in the curb.

How about a boobytrap, like a can of water on a spring inside the lid?

I would go over and say hey, I noticed you used my trash can this morning. In the future if you have more than fits in yours, if you could please check with me first.  I had more to put in this morning and there was no more room.  Unless your barrel was still not full after she put her stuff in there.  If that's the case just say if you could please check with me first to be sure I'm not going to need it.

Funny you should bring this up.  New neighbors have their barrels out already completely filled four days before trash pick-up.  I was going to tell them we had room, go ahead and fill ours but then I was afraid I would be opening the door for them to use it all the time.
