I have a Tracfone I got from HSN last August, I'm not a heavy user and I had many minutes, texts, and data that have rolled over through all the years I have used various phones. My phone was working okay until a couple of days ago, no more mobile service no making or receiving calls, no texting or receiving texts.
I called Tracfone's customer service number and spoke to two different people both of which had accents I had a hard time understanding them. They need to authenticate you, for a phone, asking a million questions like they're writing a book about you! This first guy was of no help at all and he proceeds to pawn me off to someone else. She tells me at first I have no service date, no data, minutes, or texts!
I tell her that can't be I have over 3,000 minutes and texts and 3 GB of data left. She asks for info about my previous phone, I don't know, I don't have it anymore. I then tell her I want to unlock my phone, all of a sudden she tells me I'm not eligible for a free unlocking as my end of service date is November 20 ( all of a sudden she found this info). She tells me to unlock it earlier costs $42. She did take my word for the minutes, texts, and data I had and got authorization to give it to me ( I'm not 100% a got them). When my time is up with them ( maybe before) me and my phone will be looking for another cellphone plan.
We both got the same phone from HSN and it sucks. I think because it's an os. I will never get that kind again. So far, mine is OK, but not as good as the one I had preiously. When it expires, I will look for a different one. Could be why it was so cheap. Like you, I just tex and make occasional calls. Yes, you cannot understand the person who can't help you. They keep you on the line asking the same question over and over and then transfer you because they don't know what to do.
All my friends have expensive iphones, but as a senior, I can't afford those. I wish people would call more and quit texing.
Hope you get help. I think its because of the os at the end, I had a good one before, but fell for the price on this one.

I'm glad you got the situation resolved, Jordan2.
I don't want to disregard that some people are seemingly unhappy with Tracfone but that's definitely not the case for me. I've had Tracfones for close to a decade, always with Verizon as the carrier, and couldn't be more pleased with both the phones and the service. I had Verizon even before I had Tracfone and have never had a problem.
I recently purchased a backup of the phone I have activated now because the phone is excellent and the deal was irresistible. HSN had a sale on the Moto G Stylus for $99 (with my coupon it was $89). It's now $199 on HSN and the Q is offering it for $237. That means that I got the service package plus an awesome phone for $20 less than what the sevice package alone would cost on the website
($49 service + $30 talk + $15 data +$15 text =$109).
The phone has 4GB RAM, 128GB memory and a 48MP camera that takes great pictures. This is a phone I would highly recommend.
When you consider that for $89 (let's say $100 with tax) that comes to approx $8.33 per month (unless I choose to add more texts or whatever) which is a great deal especially when you consider the phone is included. It doesn't get better than that.
If I told you what I do with the 100 or so apps on my phone this post would end up being a novella, lol. My daughter has an iPhone and my phone does everything hers does but at a fraction of the cost which means, for me, I'm sticking with the great deal Tracfone has provided for many, many years. I am sorry for the trouble some of you have had and I hope those of you who aren't happy with your service will be able to find something more suitable for your needs. Good luck!

I'm only looking to spend $20 or $25 a month for a cellphone plan (I will take my phone with me when I get it unlocked). I have looked into Mint Mobile ( Ryan Reynolds has an interest in the company) and it sounds good. Does anyone use Mint Mobile or even know about it?

@SharkE Data is what you use when you're away from your home WiFi and use the internet, say checking your email or reading the boards for instance.
One hint I picked up here years ago was to buy a year of service on the TracFone website for $50. per year. I have more accumulated talk and text than I'll ever use, occasionally buy a little data time but need service alone every year. I figure my phone costs me a little less than $5/mo.

I'm so sorry some people feel that "IPhone is the only way to go". My family are Contrarians in that we don't buy Apple products, period. We usually buy Samsung but I have used nothing but Fire tablets for 14 years. To save some money on ridiculously priced smart phones we only buy them new and unlocked from Amazon. My Son and DH have pretty high end models but I do just fine with A21. We usually replace our phones every three years. We go with a Verizon family plan because we live in an under served rural area and frequently travel in desolate areas. Our plan is not the cheapest but manageable because we pay cash for our less expensive ( than national carrier) phones.

I think you are right.....anyone know of any cell phone company that has good customer service----without the high price tags?????
@Spurt I intend to investigate Consumer Cellular. They win awards for their CS. Budget friendly.
I was thinking of them too....🤔
@Spurt , we changed ours to PureTalk and love it. They have great CS and if you need to talk to them, they are very helpful and easy to understand. We did purchase our Android phones from them, and they have various plans to choose from. Our monthly bill for both phones is $27/month. You can choose whatever plan you want, and their rates are unbelievable for what you get. JMO.

I think Mint Mobile is a good option. I do not have MM but it runs on the T-Mobile network. I am a long time T-Mobile customer and the coverage has been 5 star. MM has an awesome website with great information. Plus they have a special 3 month trial offer for new customers. You need your own compatible phone and the plans are prepaid. Good luck!

I have not and have no intentions of ever sending a text. My Samsung Ao2s works just fine for the few calls I have made, and also accessing the internet. Only used the internet once while in the ER for hours in April, waiting for them to get me an inpatient room. It worked fast and had no problems accessing the sites I wanted to visit.
My wife uses hers as a backup, but has used it many times go text. If she has a problem texting, I will always hear about it. She is the exact opposite of me. If she can get away from making a phone call, she will do it. At times, she evens asks me to make her calls. So far, hers must be working just fine.
Sorry to hear you are having problems. I haven't called Tracfone for many years because I have not had any problems with using them as my provider. Set up all my new phones online.

Good idea. Has anyone tried Consumer Cellular? Just wonder if they are any better.
I haven't had to call Tracfone, but getting on their website to buy minutes or just to check your data amounts is quite the pain.
