For any of you know-it-alls here, did it ever occur to any of you that some people are way too poor to tip?

@gertrudecloset I'm not cheap, just not supplementing someone's salary because the EMPLOYER is "too cheap" to pay what YOU feel is not sufficient. If you and others want to subsidize the entire human race you feel are underpaid, well than knock yourself out. I won't be shamed, certainly not by you or anyone else, and have NO/ZERO guilt over what I do with my money. And in my opinion, I don't feel it's expected for delivery drivers to be tipped, nor should they expect it as part of the their salary.

And don't get things twisted, as I never mentioned hotel cleaners. The subject is delivery drivers-stay on topic.

@cakers also feel like you certainly like to assume you know my personal thoughts. You know what they say about assuming something.....

Again, waitresses are also NOT part of the original discussion NOR did I ever say I don't tip in a restaurant....again your sanctimonious assumptions....

My son left a 20.00 tip. I said why? No one waited on us. He said out of guilt. I worked my **ss off for a tip like that bringing more that coffee,etc. We had 5 course meals.
I could not believe not one server at any tables.
His money, but no one served anything.
Would you have left a tip?

i applaud your son for doing that......yes, i leave a 15% tip at buffets, even if they supply only minimal service. having friends in the restaurant industry i know how overworked and stretched they are now for over two years.

better service would get a larger tip. even if i get horrible service at a regular restaurant i would leave no less than 15% and then leave a review or speak with the manager.

I do not remember when it became common practice to tip repair or delivery people. This wasn't always the case. Now it seems to be common practice so yes we give a minimum of $10 per person, depending on the amount of work involved.

@Sooner oh yea I know and those are the ones who usually make an excuse for not tipping.

If I couldn't afford to tip, I wouldn't say anything but "Thank you". I wouldn't make excuses.

If you can afford it and don't want to, that's ok. It's your money.

my mother will be 82 this year and for as long as i can remember she tipped delivery men.....that is who i learned it from.

Tipping is pretty personal and an individual decision, and everyone has the right to tip or not, irrelevant to income. I know people who are cheap and wealthy, and those who are poor and generous. Making assumptions about anyone other than yourself as to WHY someone tips or not is PURE speculation, unless you learned how to read minds!
