I'm glad I opened this thread because, I hadn't been tipping furniture or appliance types of delivery before.  I'll make sure I'm prepared next time. 
As far as being too poor, if you have money to buy, you should have money to tip, when appropriate.

It has actually never occurred to me to tip delivery people for items where I have paid a delivery and installation fee. 

 

I am not saying tipping is wrong or right, it has just never crossed my mind. 

 

I do tip in restaurants.
