My DH has worked for a few delivery companies.  None ot the delivrey charge is shared with the people actually handling the delivery.   So I ALWAYS give a tip.  The minium is $10 pr person..more if it is a heavy item.

My DH has worked for several delivery companies.  The  cost of the item and the delivery charge does not go to the people doing the actual delivery.   Not to mention that their hourly rate for the work they do is not all that great.  So I always tip.

I am having a washer and dishwasher delivered and installed tomorrow morning. The dryer is on back order for a few weeks ( of course, that's the appliance that is dead...)

I am prepared to tip $10.00 each if delivery and setup are satisfactory. Just a few stairs at the front door; appliances will both live on the first floor. I always give the guys bottled water as well.

The mere suggestion that a delivery person should receive a tip is outrageous.  It must be an East Coast thing because I never heard of it.  No wonder the cost if living is so high in the East.  Do you also tip UPS every time your driver comes to the door?  Delivery people are not service workers and are well paid.  Their salaries don't need to be subsidized; they're just doing the jobs for which they were hired.

That reminds me of the drive in window at Starbucks and the glass jar they have on the ledge for tips.  How ridiculous and rude.  They are getting paid for the work they do and now you want tips?  This tippiing just about everyone needs to stop.

I tip everyone! When I had my last movers, I gave all 4 movers $20 each, no stairs, quick work. I said they could use it for lunch or whatever. They acted shocked, as if that was unexpected. I tip AAA drivers if they have to do something. I just don't tip the postal delivery person. We have so many, I don't feel we have a regular anymore. And when I get deliveries from Walmart or a local salsa company I buy from, they drop off so fast, no time to tip, and they have no tip option online.

Try to be generous when you're able and they do actual work for you.

@Kachina624   I have lived on both coasts and now Texas and have always tipped for appliance deliveries.  They do a lot more than drop off, they make them work for me.

I do not tip for deliveries left at my door. They don't ring the bell and the only way I know it's been delivered is via text.

@mspatmac    You must be a legend among Texas delivery drivers as the only person who tips them.  I lived there 35 years and never heard of delivery people receiving tips or customers giving them.  In the early years of my career in employment service, I sent local delivery drivers on jobs all day, every day.  Tips were never mentioned as a job perk by anyone placing orders and no driver ever asked about them.

@joann1218 Where one lives has NOTHING to do with whether or not you should tip someone for services rendered on your behalf.  This is not an area of the US issue, it is a being a decent human being kind of thing.

If I were getting delivery of appliances, like a washer/dryer that must go into the basement ~ I AM TIPPING THOSE PEOPLE.  Reason:  It takes a great deal of effort to get it through the door.  They have to maneuver it in such a way and sometimes it takes longer than it would normally if they bought it in the front door.  Since my basement has a small side door, that is where they must bring it in.  YES they get a tip from me.

Since my Dryer set up is used with natural gas, I have to call a plumber for that.  When the plumber comes to do anything in my home, he gets no tip.  They want $100.00 just to diagnose a problem in your home nowadays.  It's a two part job for the Plumber who gets no tip.  Come and undo the gasline to the dryer.  When new dryer show up the delivery people are only putting it where I ask them to.  They are not "hooking it up for me."  Only a license plumber will do that in my home.  Then once the new appliance is placed where I need it, the plumber comes back and installs the new one.  This is negotiated as one job (that they will come twice).  I don't tip plumbers.

I tip delivery people who bring heavy items in my home (all appliances)

furniture and other items that are cumbersome that must be delivered via a freight, lift or whatever.  They will most definitely get a tip.

I don't tip the mailman

The UPS guy

The grocery boy

My lawn care people

Snow removal

If you trust the person to set up your dryer then is he a plumber too?  Is it a gas dryer?  I would not trust anyone other than my plumber for natural gas...(that's just a preference I have).
