Re: Thoughts on tabloids at grocery checkouts

Have you suggested to the manager that those you find to be offensive be moved? If not, why not? If so, what was her/his reply? It would seem to me it is up to the discretion of the ones that run the store where they place products of any kind.

I am assuming, much like batteries that are sold everywhere in most stores, the managers believe this increases sales of this item, and in retail that is what business is all about. More product that moves the more $$$ they stand to make.

I don't follow movie stars or celebrity types---so it's fun for me to take a tabloid up to our cabin occasionally. Smiley Happy

Actually, corporations pay for product placement. Pay attention in the cereal aisle -- which cereals are eye-level? Same for ketchup -- notice brands at eye-level. Soups? Etc. Welcome to agri-business.

God Bless her but my grandmother used to pick up the Enquirer back in the day and read it like it was the regular newspaper.

I think they]re just trashy.

LOL My MIL used to do the same thing, and then tell me some cockeyed story... She would say "It's true! I read it in the Enquirer!"

It doesn't bother me. They're not something I'm interested in.

Years ago they were fun. You could buy two different ones with the exact same pictures in them and then compare the stories. The stories were always different. You didn't know which, if any, story was the true one. {#emotions_dlg.laugh} Now they are just trashy.

The pics don't bother me but not familiar with some of the people - I'm old!

I think the magazines are pure stupidity. Who actually reads that stuff? I don't think that its appropriate for the magazine to be down low and eye level with young kids.

Re: Thoughts on tabloids at grocery checkouts

I almost bought the Enquirer a couple of weeks ago with the picture of Kirstie Alley on it, but it costs 4.99 so I put it right back. I would never pay that much for a rag like that. I was shocked at the price!! I never read it, but for some reason felt like it that day. I pay that much for a quality magazine. I did not realize those gossip rags cost the same as the good stuff.

I'm sick of seeing Kim Kardashian's protruding posterior, too, (and, yes, that would include when it's on the cover of that other rag, People) so I just look the other way.
