Re: Thoughts on tabloids at grocery checkouts

I get them every week, not just for the celeb stuff but there is some useful info as well.yes, Kim was on the cover for a spread called "best and worst Beach bodies" -- or something like that. They are funny and entertaining and they actually scoop many of the more legit celeb news sources. Before anyone jumps me, I read a lot because I read very fast and I read everything, I just like those tabloids.

I understand completely what you are saying. More and more adults don't seem to care what kids are seeing and hearing, all to their detriment. I recently went to an event, and the drinking was ridiculous. I don't understand drinking just to be drinking.....one right after another. I have a past that makes me uncomfortable around drinking, but I try to not be a complete "stick up my behind" person. I just clearly don't understand soooo much. Feeling old.

Me either! No one makes you look at them, there are other magazines to look at!

Doesn't bother me, but then I don't have kids. Round here, they have "family friendly" checkstands where they guarantee either no magazines or only "boring" ones.

It surprised me, because where I used to live, "family friendly" checkouts were ones without candy, so moms could wait in line without their little darlings pestering, "Mom, can I have some Skittles? Can I? Can I, huh? Mom, can I? Can I have some Skittles? Huh? Huh?"

whether or not kids see that at the grocery store cannot even compare to what they are seeing and hearing at school, on the internet, from their friends, on tv/movies/radio, from music they listen to!

It doesn't bother me, either, but I don't have kids.

What I find kind of irksome (not to the extent that it becomes a dialog in my head or anything) is that some people will pick these up with their grubby hands, read them with no intention of purchasing them, and then shove them back in the slot. It's not a library - you either buy the stuff or leave it alone. (ok, mini-rant over)

I would tend to agree with you except that's nothing compared to the people at Barnes and Noble who are sitting on the floor in the aisles reading the books. I don't get it lol
