Re: They Know I'm Old When I Say My Name

Well NO ONE ever had my name.  My grandparents were born in Poland, Slovakia with some German and Russian thrown in.  No English spoken in their homes.  Needless to say, I was given a Slovakian/Polish first name.  I hated my name until I got in my early 20's.  Guys in clubs thought I was exotic (hardly) and foreign because I do speak Polish, so I laid it on thick!  Now I love my name!

Everyone can figure out how old I am because my name was popular in 1960-61. Tamara, (Tammy for short). I dont forsee it making a comeback.

Re: They Know I'm Old When I Say My Name

I like the names everyone has!

My name could be male, female and a last name. It can be spelled many ways.

It was in movies in the 30s.

A few years back at one on my jobs, 5 of us were named the same. 3 female, 2 male.

I process claims - I see my name everywhere. First, last, male, female all ages.

I see lots of unique names processing claims.

I guess there's no harm with me telling you my name.  Cheryl

@PhilaLady1   My younger sister's name is Cheryl. My dad picked out her name by the girl in the Mickey Mouse Club...that was back in 1964.

My first name was picked out because my Dad's favorite flower was Black-eyed Susan. My middle name is Louise for a tune he enjoyed "every little breeze..."

I will be 65 in December.  Smiley Happy

I thought you were going to say something like Tilly, Gertrude or Sadie. Cheryl is not an old name

Re: They Know I'm Old When I Say My Name

My name is Ellen which is a typical mid 1950's name there were 3 Ellen's in my fifth grade class. My mother wanted something fancy and my dad wanted to name me Ann. My only wish is it spelled Ellyn. It must be pretty rare since I never see it in any name displays

Re: They Know I'm Old When I Say My Name

@Mary Bailey : I worked for the state . I helped a lot of people fill out their forms. So many first names were so long that they didn't fit on the form. Extra sheet of paper had to be attached with the full name. But people yelled at me and used other words. Many times the security guard would come over, one lady hit him and he stated: you named that child and it's your problem. Yet it was me and the security guard that ended up in the supervisor office. We were told to send letters to the governor.

@PhilaLady1,

I think your name is very pretty!

I like it better than mine which I've always thought was hard to pronounce! Even a few years ago, my older sister was helping me practice ways to pronounce it lol!

What can you do?!

Well at least I like mine better than the other one I almost got named.

Re: They Know I'm Old When I Say My Name

Interesting thread @PhilaLady1 - thanks!

I never really researched this before. For my decade my name is way down! The name I was SUPPOSED to have is the one I wish I had! I could say I was named after someone very famous, so when I was young I decided that would be my name. My friends went along for a while, but just because we all did it! But at the last minute my dad turned the page and my parents changed their minds.

DH was named after his father's older brother whose plane went down in the Pacific near the end of WWII. (They never found him.) His name is halfway down the chart. When he was younger his friends called him by his initials. I never did. His mother and her family called him by his nickname; his father and his family called him by his full name, which he dislikes, and his sisters still do.

Neither one of our names is on the current chart!  Smiley Wink
