Both my grandma's looked like the photo on the left, me I look like the right one, even though I am not a grandma I'm certainly old enough to be one.   I agree that our grandma's didn't have the luxuries of todays' women so I don't see how the "looks" can be compared.  Also if you look at most of us when we were in high school, we looked nothing like todays high school kids, JMO.

Same here ... grandma on the left.

I recall her only beauty product, at that time, was in the bathroom  medicine chest ... a jar of Pond's Cold Cream.

If I smelled it again, I'm sure it would take me back many decades to that time.

@Queen of shop Yes, I hear ya.  My grandmother(s) also tatted doilies to put on top of their dressers, etc.  Yes, they really did it all, didn't they?  Hence the expression, "one mother can take care of 10 children, but 10 children can't take care of one mother."  <3

"Doilies" just triggered a memory ... my grandmother had some amazing doilies!   My sisters and I would borrow them, wear them on our heads, and prance around, pretending we were brides!  LOL  Woman LOL

Re: Then vs. Now - Your Preference?

Being a Grandmother is special in many diffrent ways for different women.  A Grandchild doesn't find her special for the way she looks.  Sometimes it's her cooking, the time she gives or how she seems to just love them hook, line and sinker.  Being a "Granny" is  winning the lottery.  I have 11 grandkids and learn so much from them and hopefully give back in return.

Grannies will always "look" the way you see them as you live and grow.

My grandma looked like the ones on the left. Sadly she was not a happy woman, modern medicine could have helped her so much. I think we can value both versions without putting either one down.

@QVCkitty1

My grandmother, in pictures we have when she was young, was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.  Her waist looked about 18 inches.  She was holding Baby #5 which she breastfed . She was wearing a beautiful high-neck lace blouse which she sewed and a long black taffeta skirt which, too, she sewed.  Age-shaming?  Some people need to get off their high-horse and know that our precious grandmothers aged because they were not on QVC and the Internet hunting on potions for their faces for their husbands to pay for and that they worked hard and had no modern medicine for their arthritis, their asthma and probably many suffered from and died from female cancers that they did not even know they had.  Now, those, and not you QVC kitty1, but those who are need to shut up until they can show me that I am age-shaming my gorgeous, preciouis grandmother by saying she looked like this at the time of her last pictures.  I really despise people who know nothing but think they know everything.

Re: Then vs. Now - Your Preference?

If the 3 women on the right wore the dresses, stockings and shoes of the women on the right, they would look just like them.

It's about the way we dress (now), style and color our hair, the way we wear our makeup that makes us look different.

The ladies on the left certainly have better posture.

The pain they have cost us, the evils that never happened.
