Oh, I agree. There are some glimmers of hope though, if you look for it.
On the other hand, what the heck is wrong with people? Last night our local news showed where a man in a very upscale area had gotten arrested, he had over 70 pics of child porn on his computer. They interviewed his neighbor with two small children, who couldn't believe this happened in "her" neighborhood, they were showing pics of beautiful, expensive homes. I felt bad for her.
I don't think we can escape the things that are going on. I think we need to be informed so we can make informed decisions.

Any news of import will show up when I get on the internet and I can research topics that interest me for myself. Completely uninterested in listening to talking heads blathering on and on. I feel their opinions carry no more weight than anyone else’s.
And the weather ... in my area the forecasting is useless. The only accurate information is sunrise and sunset.
Exactly, it's 2018.
The days when one had to sit in front of the boob tube to stay informed are llllooonnngg gone.

There is a fabulous story NYT, March 10, 2018 entitled, "The Man Who Knew Too Little". I highly recommend it. I could not do what he has done, to the extent he has done it..but, wow,!! I admire the man. What fortitude. Of course he has the wherewithal to lead the life he is leading. But money had nothing to do with the determination and idea. He has stuck to his guns since november 2016, and discovered a whole new world and self peace.

I think in a year or two, there will be a renaissance of realization, to coin a phrase by Ferrlingetti Life will never be the same, but it will get better. Because it needs to. I think young people will lead the way. They are fed up with shootings, cruel intentions, politics as usual, etc, they may be innocent enough to change things, because they think they can, and youth is on their side.. Naive enough, to believe they will be heard. Put all this together, and they cant loose. If they knew what they had to face, and skeptical like many of us from fighting too long, they would stand still. But they will go forward...I am convinced of this.

As long as I can remember, the news has been full of developments that I found hopeful and welcome, and ones that to me, were more negative.
I still find that to be true. In the past, when the news has seemed more relentlessly "bad", I've tried not to concentrate on that so much, but direct my attention to those things that bring cheer. It worked for me quite well most of the time.
