That has been around for a few years. We used to have an UPS store but they closed and now have several drop off points but none can scan those so need to contact UPS for a label. The closest place now that can scan is 45 miles away.

@Caaareful Shopper - I return very little to Amazon but lately did have a couple items to return and did it this way too and it was wonderful and so easy.

I was in the UPS store one day and in comes a lady with a huge pile of clothes to be sent back to Amazon. They were not folded or put in any kind of packaging. This may be what is allowed but I bet UPS hates dealing with that.

@D Kay - that happened one time when I went into UPS except the woman ahead of me had all sorts of small boxes that she was returning. Each one must have been a separate purchase cuz the UPS store person had to scan each small box separately. I wondered, like you, how much the UPS person must have hated that. She did have small bags under her counter that every time she scanned the QR code on the person's phone she would put the item in a small bag and then seal it with the label that printed out after scanning the code. Still how tedious to have to do each small box individually and there were a lot of them!

The only downside to this (and it nothing to do with Amazon) is if you are on line behind a person who first starts looking for the code on their phone when it is their turn. I have been behind people for 5 minutes who first look for the code when they reach the front of the line. Why can't they have it ready? Rude

Exactly @Janey2 !! The UPS store we go to has a line for those with the QR Codes and those who do not have them. For the holidays they had one side of the store set up for Amazon returns. It was in and out like a Brussel Sprout!

As far as I know this return process has always been this way,,I've been shopping with Amazon for a long time...buying just about anything and everything...they have the easiest way to return...and you refund is always super fast...in my opinion .they have the best and easiest and fastest way to shop and and return....other companies could learn from there very organized system....QVC should hire professionals to write new programs to there obsolete and deficient system.....

He said during the episode that he has a good crab cake recipe, I printed it out and think I'll buy lump crab at Costco or Sam's.
@rockygems123 Is it his "Baltimore Crab Cake" recipe? I haven't tried it yet.
I have jumbo lump crab in my refrigerator right this minute. I'm going to make the Chart House Restaurant stacked jumbo lump, avocado, mango salsa appetizer. It looks very impressive (I don't use as much mango), but it's so incredibly easy. No real recipe, just follow the photo once the mango salsa is made, or buy already prepared in the store. I use a 3" x 4" stainless steel mold.

I've returned items to other places using the methods you describe.
I've returned items yo the UPS Package Store, Walgreens,
and most recently, retail Banana Republic to a Staples store at their UPS desk which is probably for all outgoing returns.

Been an Amazon shopper for many years. Just got 2 packages from them today. I have never gotten an invoice or return label in anything I bought. That part is definitely not new.
The few times I have had to return something: I call them up/talk with a Customer Service Rep/They send me a link to print off a return label/My choice/UPS/USPS.
Since my wife does a lot of online shopping, I don't have to wait long before a UPS or USPS delivers a package. Just hand the delivery agent the package, and it is all free. Don't even leave the house. Can't beat that old way.

I needed to return a pair of Ryka sport slides that I purchased from Amazon. There was no invoice or return label inside the packaging.
I went online and had a selection of return options, one of which was to have a UPS QR Return Code sent to my email address.
Then I just take my shoes (they don't even have to be in the original packaging at all) to any UPS drop off store. I show them the QR code from my phone. UPS scans my code and prints out my receipt.
I live 5 miles from the UPS store. When I walked through my apartment door, Alexa had a message waiting for me to tell me my return was processed and the full refund (zero cost to return) was applied to my original method of payment. I checked and yes it was there.
That's a first for me. No labels, no invoice, no worries about packaging, immediate, no-cost, total refund.
