I just do not get excited about such things.  I know people that are driving 800 miles to go see it from a better place... the crowds... the traffic... the cost... I just do not get "IT". To each his own and whatever makes each of us happy.

I am tired of hearing  about it on the news too.......   The only good thing about it is that it is making other  FAKE NEWS less newsworthy " IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN....

I don't get it either.

I guess I think why is it so great to have darkness for a few hours in daytime? Places like Alaska and Iceland have it all the time.

I never have gotten it.

I remember thinking the same thing when we had the last one in 1979.

Even the pictures of it, I think,I still don't get it.

I"d rather look at a tree or the setting sun with a gorgeous sunset, or a lizard or a magnolia blooming-I could go on and on.

I'm really not interested but it's a fun distraction from other things that have been going on.  Those who have school age children probably find it more exciting and interesting. So for those who drive 800 miles and spend a ton of money, have fun!

I really have no interest in it.  I'm certainly not going to look at it and risk harming my eyes.

I'm not buying a t shirt, or traveling to get a better view, or standing in line to buy silly glasses.  LOL

@Mellie32  No, the nerds are the ones driving 800 miles and spending tons of money.

Everybody can't be a nerd.

But for those that are, this is likely a once in a lifetime experience.

Re: The Eclipse

@SeaMaiden I agree.  But what makes it so interesting is the way if you live like out in the country or where you can hear it and it lasts a few minutes it actually tricks the animals to think it's night.  The guy from NASA when asked if the insects will also think it's night said, (paraphrasing) "Yes!  You might hear the crickets, etc."

In my opinion one thing people have said that I think is very important is it will make people realize how important the sun is to humans and every living thing because it is very dark and it turns cold.  This would be the new normal if anything happened to the sun.

The more our environment becomes polluted, the more difficult it is for the sun to get to us.  Just things like that (in my opinion) makes it interesting.  I've been watching and listening to scientists and myths over the years that have cropped up and it's fascinating how some things takes on a life of it's own (myths, etc).  It's kind of a study on humans in a way....

I do believe in global something or other, just think people (celebrities) should practice what they preach.  If it helps other's to see how important the air we breathe is ..... then I think it's all good.

I forgot to add my daughter (who lives in Colorado) was just last night complaining about not being able to 'reserve' a camping area because so many people want to get out of the city to be able to better see it.  She didn't think it affected her either....but it did/does.  Ha!
