It is fascinating that the current highways follow the old wagon trails. Someone did a great job with scouting. Still only a few ways to go west.
80 is still the way from the Central Valley/Northern California over to Chicago. So it is a bottleneck and is on the west side of the mountains. Not actually that high, gets slammed.
In Oregon, it is 84 over thru Boise. More selection further south.

One of the trucks is from WalMart. Maybe it is carrying food.

I visited Donner Pass a few years ago. At that site, is a large measuring post with feet marked off. I wonder what it looks like now. Brings the Donner Pass tale to life.

We heard about the storm several days before it actually arrived. Surely there are other routes, even if not as convenient. They should just close the highway. They close interstates in NM at the first sign of a c stiff breeze.
I agree. Seems like it happens all the time. JUST STAY HOME PEOPLE.

Nothing about the current situation or what happened to the tragic Donner party is funny. But that's just me.
Let's hope everyone makes it safely to his/her destination and it doesn't turn into another tragedy.

My neighbor did make it safely up there today. She said it was an easy drive, that CalTrans had done a terrific job of clearing the major roads. I'm sure that lots of folks are still snowed in and without power.

Hopefully history won't repeat itself.
LOL. Our university named their eatery Donner Pass Memorial Cafeteria. I bet half the universities have named their cafes something similar.

So glad my forebearers stayed on the East Coast. I'll take our hurricaines anyday!
