I saw this photo where snowplows are trying to help truckers at the Donner Pass. It must be frightening to be stalled in one of those big rigs. Imagine a covered wagon.

I think I remember learning about The Donner Pass.......Our fore-mothers and fore-fathers crossing that pass in heavy, treacherous snow storms.

Wishing all who travel right now the very best of luck and safety.

OnIt, I thought the same exact thing when I saw this on the news yesterday. Those pioneers must have been beyond scared.

😮Wow! This jaw-dropping photo reminds us of the unpredictability and harshness of nature! I have nothing but RESPECT for truck drivers❤, and all they must endure on a daily basis to deliver vital goods and services.👍😊 It certainly makes you have more compassion when you think of delayed deliveries!🥰

Re: The Donner Pass

[ Edited ]

I can't understand why all these motorists headed right for Donner Pass knowing that this terrible storm was predicted, only to sit in their vehicles stranded.  We heard about the storm several days before it actually arrived.  Surely there are other routes, even if not as convenient.  They should just close the highway.  They close interstates in NM at the first sign of a c stiff breeze.

@Kachina624 : As another poster mentioned, these are truckers and the only other way to get where they are going is at least 5 hrs around it. For truckers time is money.

@patbz.  Tell me they're making money spending several days sitting shivering atop Donner Pass.  Probably burning diesel the whole time too.

I heard there's a second storm due tonight or tomorrow.  I wonder if they ever got dug out of the first?

@Babyfran - Same here. I saw the pictures and thought of what happened there so many years ago. Such a terrible situation - today AND worse back then in 1846.
