When I ordered the item they asked me if I wanted to register with a user ID and password so my check out would be faster in the future. I said NO and made my purchase as a guest so they would not retain my personal information or so I thought silly me. This was a year before this data theft. Was I surprised to get a E Mail from them saying that my name, address, phone # and E Mail had been taken in the data theft. They shouldn't even have retained that information after I told them I did not want to register with them and yet they did keep it without my permission. I wouldn't trust them to keep any information safe. I buy much less there now and pay with folding green. Evidently I am not the only one as their sales are down and I just read a article saying sales are down with many fewer customers using any sort of debit or credit cards when they do buy. Burn me once shame on you. Burn me twice shame on me! I would do the same with any retailer that was so sloppy that they had their data bases hacked. looks like my Home Depot card will be the next to get cut up and dropped in the trash bin.On 9/7/2014 KathyPet said: Yup and they are still trying to hypnotize you by pushing for you to open a Target card hoping that you were living under a rock and hadn't heard about the credit mess their sloppy security caused. Can't believe they are still soliciting people to get one after what they did. Everytime they ask me I just say "You're kidding right?"Do you actually know anyone who had a problem? I've had my Target card for years, enjoy the automatic 5% discount on everything I buy, and continue to use my Target card. I've had no problems at all.
But have you had any problems as a result of this breach? Besides the fact that you have to keep an eye on things? I think that is what OR is asking.
I was included in that breach as well but I've not had anything happen. I was also part of the Neiman Marcus breach and Michael's. Probably others I'm not aware of yet.

I've never had trouble with my Target Visa card, thankfully. I check my statement online at least once a week. It's the only credit card I use.

We used the Target red card before, during and after the hacking.
No problem at all, and if there is one, I have it in writing that Target will take care of it all.

Every store will either be involved in a breach or has been involved in a breach. It's just inevitable.
I've been setting up text alerts on my credit cards so I know instantly when a purchase has been made. I like that a lot...

Probably most of us have had credit cards that have been hacked, most didn't make the headlines for days or weeks at a time.
I know Nordstrom had their cards hacked, and I know for sure Chase was hacked. I have one of their cards and mine was hacked for $600. Chase called the minute it happened, warned me, took it off my bill and Fed Exed us a new card within 24 hours.
If you don't already know, the hackers or thieves get long lists of credit card numbers and sell them online. For a couple of bucks, people can get someone's card # and information to be used online where no signature or ID is needed.
Demonizing Target is a waste of time, you might want to see what's happening with the rest of your accounts.

Target is cold and not friendly. I have been in there several times and found most items way overpriced and the employees not so nice.

Lol...I agree. I actually had a teenage cashier try to foist the "Red Card" on me. I said no thanks, but he kept pushing. Finally, I told him my bank advised me not to use the Red Card and he blurted out, "Your bank needs to loosen up"!...I couldn't believe it. The nerve after all the drama with the breach. ![]()

On 9/8/2014 ive been framed said:This is why I avoid (try to!) craft and hardware stores. Or I wear blinders and go down only the aisles I need to be in! Marshall's is one store I can really get into trouble with! They had beautiful mercury glass pumpkins and gourds there last week (largest was only $14) and it was all I could do to restrain myself and leave with only the one thing I went in for!!!
I just may go back soon. Lord help me...
You better go asap or they will be gone and you will mourn their loss. It happened to me at TJ Maxx. There were two items that appealed to me, I didn't need either, so I got one of them and left the other there. However, I began to regret being responsible and only getting the one. After a couple of days of regret I made a trip back to TJs and it was gone and they wouldn't be getting another. Now the regret turned into a feeling of loss, an if only. So my advice to you is to get those pumpkins before they are gone and you are left with loss and regret.
