Re: Surprise! The IRS Might Be Calling You

I never answer my phone unless I know the name or number on the screen.  If someone leaves a message, I listen to it and then delete if I don't know the person.  If I get an e-mail that I don't recognize the name, I delete immediately.  I've always paid my bills on time, filed my taxes on time and have outstanding credit, so why in the world would I think I owe anybody a dime.

If the IRS were to start calling people I think letters would be going out first telling people how much they owe.  I don't think the majority of people are going to be bothered by this.

Re: Surprise! The IRS Might Be Calling You

Link doesn't work.  But if someone is gonna sue you, the first time you find out usually won't be bc you get a threatening "final" call scaring you with a lawsuit.  You will have had more than a few notices.  I've come home to calls saying my credit card has been hacked, and to call a number saying it's my credit union as to how to further proceed.  Many of these are bogus, some have been true.

If you owe the IRS money, if they think you made a mistake on your taxes, they have always sent a CP Notice explaining why and with the option of paying that or appealing.

Any calls like this I get, I hang up and get the customer service telephone number off the back of my credit card or you can easily go online and get the telephone number for the "real IRS" and call them direct.  I never have and never will call any number I'm directed to call based on a voicemail left on my answering machine.
