Re: Suggestions for a hostess gift?

I'm all over the flower idea.

Alstroemaria are great for a vase, they come in tons of colors and last a good 3-4 weeks. Buy them with buds closed or barely opening. In 3 to 4 days, her bouquet with be stunning!

@spent2much  Flowers or a candle are good suggestions. I also appreciate when someone brings me a seasonal tea towel.  Maybe something with a Fall theme.  A good, more unusual jar of jelly or jam would be good, if she isn't on a sugar free diet.

@PA Mom-momI love your tea towel suggestion.  No diet or scent issues too as you mentioned and always fun to get something for the next season coming up.

I'm obsessed with kitchen towels though lol.  Just had lunch with a friend and I let her know how I think about her often when I look at the towels she gave me recently.

I would keep it simple. How well do you know her? If you don't know her well, I agree with the nice notecards and pen, or maybe a nice teatowel.

I love the idea of a candle, but if you don't know her well, she could have allergies, or be sensitive to certain scents..

@rockygems123  I'm with you on the kitchen towels. My best friend gave me a red, white and green winter-themed (cardinal) towel at Christmas. It perfectly matches my KA stand mixer, so I have it under the motor and covering the bowls and beaters. I'm leaving it on, because it's perfect and reminds me of my best friend every time I look at it.

Re: Suggestions for a hostess gift?

In this day and age I seriously would NEVER give food unless you know the person very very well.  People don't eat food with: Sugar, carbs, gluten, dairy, nuts, non-vegan, and the list goes on and on.

It would be especially embarrassing if the person has a severe reaction to some of the above or is diabetic. . . Woman Embarassed

My go to hostess gift is Harney & Sons Tea, I buy the sachets packed in tins. They make a lovely little gift - I tie them in a pretty netting with a bow. If the recipient doesn't drink tea she will surely know someone who does!

Definitely no gift cards and no candles.  It's lunch so something inexpensive.  Flowers, maybe a plant, scented soaps, a bottle of gourmet olive oil, some homemade muffins or cookies for your hostess, not to be served at the luncheon.

I love this time of year for the blooming of sunflowers.

You could find a small bunch at farmer's market, fruit stand, or grocery store.

They make people smile and perfect for an August luncheon.
