I don't like long bridges, like the Mackinac Bridge. For a fee

they provide a service to drive your vehicle across the bridge, also when it is extremely windy they close the bridge.

@YouGoGirl1 I remember reading that about The Mackinaw Bridge, some people are so freaked out, they have someone drive them over the bridge! That would be me!!!!!

I've ridden (not driven myself) across that a few times.

But I have no idea what the view looks like from the bridge since my eyes were closed every time! 🫣

Re: Submarines, elevators and bridges

@qualitygal  Elevators, bridges and planes don't bother me even though I don't like heights.  The MRI machine does.  I decided after my first MRI I was not being buried.  Told my husband send my body through the easy bake oven.  I found out I am claustrophobic.  I also don't like stairs that are "open" as in you can see through them (they are not solid on all sides).  I tend to stay next to the wall going down or up on them.

I was close a couple of times as a kid: lying down in the backseat with a blanket over my eyes.

The fact that I get carsick didn't help the situation.

I had a problem with the State Street Bridge in Chicago when I was a kid.

Until it does that.

Nope, not a fan of drawbridges either.

Come to think of it, I'm not really a fan of bridges...period.

Re: Submarines, elevators and bridges

[ Edited ]

I don't mind being enclosed, but don't take me up high! I posted a picture of the Chesapeake Bay bridge on @Kachina624 's thread about the Albuquerque balloon festival, where we also discussed "high things"!

I do not like bridges. Growing up on the water I've been over a lot of them. I like the views from up high, as long as I'm traveling on a main four-lane expressway looking out my window.

@just bee - That picture of the mountain road you posted? No way! When I studied in France we spent a few days in the Nice/Monaco area. There were some roads like that there, and we were in a BUS! I couldn't look out my window!

I've been on two submarines- at port of course! They wouldn't bother me.

I'm not crazy about elevators, especially if they're glass. The express ones I've been on that go up 50 floors in one minute don't bother me- unless I look down at the crack when I get off! I don't like staying on an upper floor in a hotel room, but I will admit, usually the view is amazing.

And this? As much as I like to be in the water, NEVER!

Re: Submarines, elevators and bridges

Imogene Pass near Telluride, Colorado. More people have fallen off the road to their deaths than any other mountain road in Colorado. I was on it once and never again.

You can't see the bottom but it's a few thousand feet from the road straight down. No guard rails, no nothing to keep your vehicle from going over the edge.
